Travel Agencies that prepare nurses for travel assignments?
What agency do you use for LTC?

Orange Park OPMC
its sad to think that nursing care is substandard no matter where one gets treatment. i have always said that going to nursing school or having a medical background is defensive training that we can have for ourselves and our loved ones. thank you for the information. and its enlightening to know that opmc has improved their care.:heartbeat

Deaf Nurses or Student Nurses
I wear bilateral hearing aides. I would use an electronic scope for sounds, and constantly take out my aides to use the scope. Its a real pain but what worked for me.

Nurses struggling with mental illness
This is very unfortunate, that should you report to the powers that be, that hire or fire you, or work with you that the mention of anything mental/emotional as a disability 'labels' you, whether it be bipolar, depression, mania, PTSD, PD, AD, or whatever. It is much easier to avoid the subject and should you need time off for one of the above situations, address it then. Remember HIPAA? That is your safeguard. If the subject is not roused, then one should not be obligated to report it.

Any Nurses recieving SSD/SSI
:heartbeat what type of disabilities are we discussing here? emotional/mental or physical: back, neck, etc. its much easier to get an idea of the discrimination and the problems you are going through if you can allude to the type of disability you have.

Nursing and Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is one of the newer "grey area' conditions that is not easily understood by lay people and for that matter, a heck of a lot of medical people as well. I have found that older male docs tend to 'poo poo' the idea that fibromyalgia is a very real condition. I have heard of one person who is on Remicade for it and responding to it. So that leads me to believe that it is auto immune and it responds to therapy. And I have heard of 2 people who applied for and received Social Security Disability for that condition. For those who don't have that option, its NSAIDS, plaquenil, methotrexate, SSRI's etc. to manage symptoms and the hope that the medical and lay society will learn that it is a very real true medical condition.:heartbeat

Can bipolar disorder get in the way of recieving lnursing licensure?
i have personally worked with nurses who were bipolar. everyone else on the floor knew it; whether she had turned it in as a disability to the mgr or not i don't know. it didn't get her fired or in trouble. however, i admit when she was in a 'mood' it was a bit difficult to be around her. on the up side, boy, could she get her work done and then some!!:heartbeat

turned away after clinical started??
i would contact the ada also. this just doesn't sound right. you are an accomplished individual and have alot to offer nursing. is your administrator a jerk or what? yep, i would fight it. but i would also go back to the doc and see if he can 're word' your disability in a way that is more agreeable too. good luck!:heartbeat

Need relief from anxiety
Unfortunately, anxiety goes along with nursing school. Its tough and you are pushed to your limits. You have some professors that try to push your buttons. They want to see if you are capable of standing up under stress and can do the job when you graduate. And nursing is stressful. When you are on your own, you will have to think fast, be proactive, stand up to docs, mgrs, and administration, whatever the situation may call for. If you are having anxiety attacks or feeling really stressed, why don't you consider going on a medication until you can get your stress under control? What harm would that be? If it helps you improve your anxiety level, your reaction times, and calm you down, what harm is there in that? We would tell patients the same thing, would we not?:heartbeat

Struggling with Dyscalculia/ADHD
[/color i have had dyscalculia since age 12. math has always been a struggle for me. i am 50 something, and to this day i still count on my fingers! i always have a calculator, and check and recheck figures. when i would start a drip, i would always have 2 more nurses check my figures. i have had so many years of math hesitancy, i just don't trust my skills there. in nursing school, i went through biofeedback to help with the stress of the math tests. there is hope though. you know you have, you just deal with it. accept it. i have. i don't like it and thank god i have a daughter who is math savy and took physics and calculus with no problem, and i am thankful for that. so you don't always pass it on. you know you have it. you now know you will deal with it. you will. just hang in there!:heartbeat
