    Anyone ever work for Lancesoft?
  2. how old is too old to come out of retirement and return to work?/
  3. its sad to think that nursing care is substandard no matter where one gets treatment. i have always said that going to nursing school or having a medical background is defensive training that we can have for ourselves and our loved ones. thank you for the information. and its enlightening to know that opmc has improved their care.:heartbeat
  4. I suggested those two meds because I have known several that had a good response and relief from anxiety whle using them.
  5. Was that BMCS or downtown. Just curious.
  6. I wear bilateral hearing aides. I would use an electronic scope for sounds, and constantly take out my aides to use the scope. Its a real pain but what worked for me.
  7. have you tried prozac with xanax? the combo seems to work for alot of people.:heartbeat
  8. This is very unfortunate, that should you report to the powers that be, that hire or fire you, or work with you that the mention of anything mental/emotional as a disability 'labels' you, whether it be bipolar, depression, mania, PTSD, PD, AD, or whatever. It is much easier to avoid the subject and should you need time off for one of the above situations, address it then. Remember HIPAA? That is your safeguard. If the subject is not roused, then one should not be obligated to report it.
  9. :heartbeat what type of disabilities are we discussing here? emotional/mental or physical: back, neck, etc. its much easier to get an idea of the discrimination and the problems you are going through if you can allude to the type of disability you have.
  10. Fibromyalgia is one of the newer "grey area' conditions that is not easily understood by lay people and for that matter, a heck of a lot of medical people as well. I have found that older male docs tend to 'poo poo' the idea that fibromyalgia is a very real condition. I have heard of one person who is on Remicade for it and responding to it. So that leads me to believe that it is auto immune and it responds to therapy. And I have heard of 2 people who applied for and received Social Security Disability for that condition. For those who don't have that option, its NSAIDS, plaquenil, methotrexate, SSRI's etc. to manage symptoms and the hope that the medical and lay society will learn that it is a very real true medical condition.:heartbeat
  11. i have personally worked with nurses who were bipolar. everyone else on the floor knew it; whether she had turned it in as a disability to the mgr or not i don't know. it didn't get her fired or in trouble. however, i admit when she was in a 'mood' it was a bit difficult to be around her. on the up side, boy, could she get her work done and then some!!:heartbeat
  12. i would contact the ada also. this just doesn't sound right. you are an accomplished individual and have alot to offer nursing. is your administrator a jerk or what? yep, i would fight it. but i would also go back to the doc and see if he can 're word' your disability in a way that is more agreeable too. good luck!:heartbeat
  13. Unfortunately, anxiety goes along with nursing school. Its tough and you are pushed to your limits. You have some professors that try to push your buttons. They want to see if you are capable of standing up under stress and can do the job when you graduate. And nursing is stressful. When you are on your own, you will have to think fast, be proactive, stand up to docs, mgrs, and administration, whatever the situation may call for. If you are having anxiety attacks or feeling really stressed, why don't you consider going on a medication until you can get your stress under control? What harm would that be? If it helps you improve your anxiety level, your reaction times, and calm you down, what harm is there in that? We would tell patients the same thing, would we not?:heartbeat
  14. [/color i have had dyscalculia since age 12. math has always been a struggle for me. i am 50 something, and to this day i still count on my fingers! i always have a calculator, and check and recheck figures. when i would start a drip, i would always have 2 more nurses check my figures. i have had so many years of math hesitancy, i just don't trust my skills there. in nursing school, i went through biofeedback to help with the stress of the math tests. there is hope though. you know you have, you just deal with it. accept it. i have. i don't like it and thank god i have a daughter who is math savy and took physics and calculus with no problem, and i am thankful for that. so you don't always pass it on. you know you have it. you now know you will deal with it. you will. just hang in there!:heartbeat
  15. My dad was a patient there in the 1990"s and was never offered any hygiene assistance (paralysis). The case workers were a joke and threatened to place him on the street if I didn't come and get him (he was VA subsidized) I had subordinates who worked there and the stories they told me were horrendous about the care! Too many patients, sloppy medicine, docs making errors and blaming nurses. Can't say if this is the case now, but it was then. I live about 8 miles from there, and my husband had a CVA in August. I drove him 45 minutes away to another hospital to avoid OPMC!
  16. google compact licensure...it will give you a map where you are licensed.
  17. I wouldn't recommend Baptist South. They might be the newest hospital in the Jax area but they are disorganized, disorganized, disorganzied! Many travelers there! High turnover. Orange Park is and Memorial are both HCA. If you know what that means. Hard to get on Orange Park unless you are a traveler or willing to accept substandard wages. Memorial is larger but high patient ratios and HCA too. Shands is your best bet. An part time Fl resident here.
  18. >50 or as I call myself: 'well seasoned'
  19. medic: i believe that when the poster stated her particular situation, she was not looking for a slap on the hand, but seeking good advice on how to deal with a particularly unpleasant situation. i think support, not admonishment would be in her best interests in this situation. i do, in my opinion of course, speak for myself and no one else. as for the poster: the company is a company period. they are in business to make a profit. if the recruiters and administrators must step on toes, take a harsh approach to individual circumstances, or appear 'heartless' in order to do so, they will indeed do so. if you develop a personal and friendly relationship, then of course it is to your advantage and that person will try extra hard to accomodate you. however, one mustn't forget that a company is a company and they are number crunchers and want their numbers to show a profit, and the travelers are a commodity, used in order to achieve the positive numbers. it is important that one not forget what the bottom line is and what their (the company) ultimate goal is. :twocents: as far as the unfortunate situation in which you find yourself: you may try public non-profit organizations (women's groups, family services, etc) and religious organizations (salvation army, methodist, mormon, catholic, etc) to float you a 'grant' or 'loan' in order to help with your situation. many of the religious organizations operate lending rooms (furniture, appliances, possessions etc) that aid and in addition, are able to provide short term transportation for people locally. you might have some luck there. [color=olive]the hospital itself is under no obligation to assist you, but all hospitals have social workers who have a wealth of resources at their fingertips. approach them. ask them for their help, or at least they can provide you with the appropriate community resources that might assist you, and in the process you may develop a personal friendship in the process! i hope that you have positive results and keep us 'posted' :flowersfo
  20. My husband receives all of his medical treatment at VA (he is a 100% service connected vet) and CHAMPVA is my insurance and they treat me as well. I am very, very pleased with the VA health care I have received with the exception of the state of Florida. Not that the facility was dirty-it shined...but the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing there...with me as a nurse, and him as a dr. it was ridiculous! we were caught in the 'black hole'... so what did I do? move 960 miles back to the home base where we KNOW the VA system is on the ball, and he would have all of his specialists..no questions asked and have excellent health care, as well as my having the appropriate care as well. btw, before I get flamed....the facility in Florida was Lake City..the staff was friendly, and most tried to be helpful, but the system there was overtaxed, overburdened with the large retired vet and military communities...I am aware that Florida has a couple of VA's that are Magnet...we were not that lucky to have been close to them.. unfortunately.. but I do miss the close proximity of the military base....love the commissaries and exchanges....:wink2:
  21. try Baptist in northeast Florida..wins by me, hands down...
  22. when a contract is cancelled, (bear with me) is the traveller left out in the cold? what happens? is she responsible for any part of the housing if it was aquired by the agency? what about the cable, phone, etc..is she out all those deposits if she is cancelled say 3 wks into the contract? does the agency offer several other contracts to choose from?
  23. what is the requirement for distance to your home base, for being placed by a traveling agency and getting the housing stipend??
  24. If an agency tells you that they have the 'tax advantage' program...is this something that one must participate in? do you have an option? It is my understanding that you cannot deduct certain items on your taxes at the end of the year and it would not be wise to actually take the tax advantage. anythoughts??:uhoh21:
