Well, I just found out that I do not have a job to return to after I have recuperated from my surgery.
I really do not know what I am going to do; it's almost like there has been too much to deal with for the past few months, and this is the straw that broke the camel's back. But once your FMLA expires, you really have no protection if you are non-union.
Sigh...right now, I really hate this profession.
Oh man Fab, I am so sorry. That really sucks. I'm dealing with something similar. My FMLA will expire as well long before I am able to go back to work, and though I was told by my employer that I will probably have a job to go back to, I probably won't be able to get back on weekend option which will mean a big pay cut for me.
Please don't worry Fab. I know it is hard not to worry, but everyone is right when they say that nurses are a precious commodity and I'll bet you'll have another job in no time at all. I'll be praying for you!

Remember this Fab. Someday there are going to be some mighty unhappy people for treating you this way.
I know how you're feeling-was there myslf once. Trust me something better will come along. I know you don't have the support you need right now at home-but know that we are all rooting for you and many of us are praying for you.
Don't feel worthless-that is bogus. Finish healing, then get out there and find something. This may be just what you need to motivate you to get something better. And every ER I know is DESPERATE for experienced RNs!
I feel for you Fab. But now it's time to make that lemonade!
Now that's a darn shame-Thank former Gov Tom Ridge and our lovely right to work state of Pa...I worked in a for profit LTC for 2 yrs-told them I would need to take of 6 to 8 weeks for surgery but was willing to schedule it after the Xmas holidays...They told me that they could not guarantee me the same shift (days) So I called the DON at the county run LTC I had left about 10 yrs before-she offered me full time days and the unit I wanted...and called the labor board. They informed me that this was a violation but since I had left there was nothing they could do(I wish they had called me back a bit faster) Then-during the week I took off between the 2 jobs I had abit of an accident and could not start the new job-she held it for me for almost 10 weeks...Am I glad to be back there-I really feel valued..Good LUck Fab-it would be abit of a commute for you but I'll put in a good word for you..lolOriginally posted by fab4fanWell, I just found out that I do not have a job to return to after I have recuperated from my surgery.

Fab, I know what you are going thru. I had surgery back several years ago while I was the DNS at a LTC. While I was out the admin tried to get me fired while I was out, but it did not work. When I started having trouble with my back, the admin got mad because the doc took me off work on Dec 19. HE told me I would not have a job when I came back. I worried myself sick, during that four months, couldn't sleep, etc. Only to find myself in a position that I could not go back, r/t my health. Keep your head up, like the others said when a door is closed, a window will open. There is too bad a nursing shortage, a better job will be out there for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
