Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL
I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.
I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.
Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?
Salema,
Dep 2002 is Child Psychology and not the human growth & development class. I'm going to the school tomorrow to submit my application and I imagine they will tell me then that the Dep 2002 is not psy. I hope the Dean is there tomorrow and that he will see me and answer if this class can be subsituted for the Psy 1012. I actually relied on the schools website "degree audit" and now to find this out at the last minute!
Jen, I went to the Kent campus on Thurs and asked for the application and they gave me a version of the old one. I dont think they would be handing out something that is no longer valid?!? but I will ask tomorrow. YEP, thats exactly why they denied any form of financial aid for me as well for having a previous degree! I guess that's standard these days . If they wont allow me to submit my application tomorrow then I will have to take this class and try for the Fall term. I see myself retaking the test in 3 mths and HAVING to take this Psy class but this will give me a chance to acquire more points for the Fall.. I may even take another version of Humanities so that I can get rid of the only "C" that I have!
I applied with 226.24 points and I'm wanting weekdays.
JenPerezPSU (is the PSU for Penn State? I'm a HUGE Nittany Lions fan) Unless someone scanned the new application into the computer, I don't believe there is an online version. I thought there would be as well and then I called and they said the only version was a paper application.
I've seen some of you stating that we would have the results in 8 weeks. I didn't see anything like that on the application so I was wondering where the time line came from. Perhaps you guys asked the questions I should have thought to ask... DUH!
I'm reluctant to get my CPR training because I don't want to jinx myself... I know my points are pretty good, I'm just nervous I guess. I guess I better do it though or else there will not be enough time between finding out if I made it or not and orientation.
I have a friend that made it into this spring's term and he actually knew someone who came to his house to do the CPR training AND charged the same as he would have paid going to another location. I think I will probably go with the suggestions they have in the application packet for CPR cert. as to not risk getting the wrong kind of certification.
mistimartin - Yeap Penn State! that's where I got my BS in Psychology... Not that it means anything in this economy. As for the magic 8 weeks number... that comes from experience. And maybe someone asked. For Spring Term, Most got their letters around Thanksgiving. Mine arrived mid/early December... And I know one girl that got hers over a week after mine... Actually I want to say she called and got an answer and then received her letter Christmas week... but she is an out of county applicant... I am guessing here but I think they were waiting for declines for her b/c she has a decent amount of points (over 200).
ljonm- I applied with 195.96 or 194.68 depending on how they calculate the raw score for the Academic Aptitude area. (I ended up with the same score in the 4th column but my rows 1 and 3 changed in comparison to each other...) With Days as my only choice... I'll be sweating it out for a while I'm sure. The cut off last term was 194... and there are fewer spots this term soooooo I'm not holding my breathe.
Hey Misti! Your points are great, no way will you jinx yourself! I know what you mean though, I won't be able to relax until I get that letter.
When I turned in my app the lady (didn't get her name) told me 8 weeks for a decision.
ljonm - I applied with 230 points and I requested weekdays.
Hey,
Yes the lady at the front desk today told me to expect to hear something within 8 weeks today. The Dean accepted my Dep 2002 child psychology in lieu of Psy 1012 so I submitted my application with 191.60 points. I'm not holding my breath this time around. I asked for daytime. I plan to retake Humanites and psy 1012 which will give me 9 extra points and then retake the NAT in 3 mths and I hope to at least have 200 points for the Fall.
Okay whomever get's the 1st rejection letter, PLEASE post the cut off points written on the letter so the rest of us can know what to expect or not expect. Good Luck everyone! :redbeathe
Soem nice scores. I think some people will be relieved that people with the high scores arent going for the weekends and nights.

Me and friends called the Advance Patient Transport one from the worksheet and it only cost us 25 bucks and took like 3 hours and only 8 people were in the class.
You call the guy and he'll ask you which hospital is closest to you and what kind of certification you need.
I took mine at St. Lukes.
The class is good if you just want to get certified and get out of there quick. The teacher doesnt really go in depth with the material and felt like he just wanted all of us to get certified and leave.
He just shows you a movie and teaches the basics and whats going to be on the test you take at the end of the class.
Deadline today. How many points did everybody here apply with and what part of the week?
I'm applying with 223 points, and only for N/W...BUT, I'm also considered out of county (St. John's) so I'm not really holding my breath. I wish everyone good luck and happy news in the coming weeks! :redbeathe
I applied with a wimpy 194 points and I need days also. I dropped off my app today and I asked what number my application was.....whoa! I was number 388!!! So, needless to say with 96 open spots it looks like I will be reapplying in the fall =) However, I will be able to take the NAT two more times before then!!!

I mailed it Thursday, they received it Friday... so I don't know yet if they accepted it. Did anyone else turn in the application using a version from Fall 2009 or before? Like I said, I didn't realize until the other day when someone mentioned on here that they sent the new form.
