Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL
I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.
I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.
Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?
OK I am freaking out just a little bit here. When advising gave me the info packet about a year ago, it said the CPR didn't have to be done before application, just before orientation. I got a new packet to fill out today and doesn't say that. One page of the packet says it must be in the student's possession before acceptance/orientation, but that's it. Does anyone know for sure? I don't know if it's possible to find a CPR class that meets this Saturday!!!
Wow
Those are great NAT scores. I heard from somewhere that the most you can use from the NAT is 120pts. But it shouldnt really affect you since its only 1 point over and you have a lot of points already.
And yeah, you dont need the CPR to apply. I just got it since I had nothing better to do, lol.
SaraFL - WOW 230.96 PTS! If you don't get in, then the rest of us need to give up.
That looks correct... Supposedly the max is 240pts (but with points for experience you could get more) so you are golden... I must admit I am a tad bit jealous. 230.96 makes my measly 195.96 look like child's play.
240 is not the max and the NAT doesn't cap at 120. You can use as many points as you earn. At least that's what the director of the FSCJ nursing program told us.
Only if they changed things. In our application season, the packet showed that 120 was the max for GPA points and 120 the max for NAT points. The only way you could get more than 240 was to have high GPA and NAT points PLUS have medical experience giving you those extra 5 pts per year up to 20 additional points.
Since the director is new, I would listen to what Ms * says. She has been running this program forever.
Does anyone know if there are any changes to the application between the new and old application packet? I sent mine in yesterday but hadn't realized they had a new form. I used the same packet that was emailed to me in the fall.
Jen the only difference I saw (and I had an "old" one from a year ago, and a "new" one from Kent campus) was the CPR thing was a little different, as I posted above.

That's what the packet says which is why the question was specifically asked. All I can say is that when I asked, I was told that you get as many points on the NAT as you earn, even if it is more than 120.

Well I took the NAT today and did pretty well. I was surprised at the electrical and mechanical questions they included, and I HATE those shapes questions. I don't know why they are difficult for me.
If I'm calculating this correctly, my NAT score is:
Total Aptitude 76
Reading Comp 36
Natural Science 77
------------------
189 raw score x 0.64 = 120.96 points
For my classes:
A&PI 4.0 x 4 hrs = 16
A&PII 4.0 x 4 hrs = 16
Micro 3.0 x 4 hrs = 12
ENC 4.0 x 3 hrs = 12
MAC 2.0 x 3 hrs = 6
HUM 4.0 x 3 hrs = 12
PSY 4.0 x 3 hrs = 12
SOC 4.0 x 3 hrs = 12
DEP 4.0 x 3 hrs = 12
---------------------
Total classes = 110
So 120.96 + 110 = 230.96
Is that right? This should be really simple to determine but I don't know why it's difficult, or maybe I'm a little paranoid, LOL. But if there's some error here please let me know!
Now I just have to fill out the application and somehow get it to North campus before deadline.
