Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL
I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.
I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.
Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?
I couldn't find my denial letter... I probably burnt it in disgust... But a friend of mine just wrote me saying she had 177.3 and was ranked 267 out of 462 with 144 spaces. So if they were in the high 300's today it probably won't get much higher then 400 or 415... That's my guess. Though technically the applications just have to be post marked by today so really maybe ljonm is right with 450.
What that also tells me is if 177.3 was ranked 267 out of 462, there are LOTS of people apply well under 177.3 pts... approximately 195 people... sooooo Maybe those of us in the 190's do have a fighting chance.
Psg513 - Glad to know talking with the Dean helped.
JenPerezPSU - I also have a BS in Psychology (which means absolutely nothing) and don't qualify for financial aid because of this. I am trying to save my pennies now.
Ljonm - I am applying with 204.56 for weekdays. I have a friend that is applying for N/W with 212.
Good luck to everyone. We'll need to keep in touch to see how everyone is holding up. It will hopefully be six weeks as opposed to eight weeks.

FSCJ is actually sort of my back up plan. I applied for JU's Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN Program and am really hoping to get in there... though I probably need the pace of this and then work on my BSN later...
JU costs more upfront... though I hear everyone gets aid/scholarships/etc... I think it's like $30K/yr but in 16 months you have your BSN. With FSCJ it costs about $10K and you have your RN in 18months, have to work an entire year and THEN you can apply for the BSN program which costs additional money and takes additional time... so I figure I'd make up the cost difference the first year. I'm just worried it may be a little more then I can handle... though who knows, i tend to rise to the occasion...
I know you are trying to save money, but have you considered JU? I didn't even consider them until my Microbiology professor recommended it. Someone told me she use to head FSCJ's Nursing program many moons ago, so I took her recommendation very seriously... Unfortunately, they only accept students for summer term in the 2nd degree program and the deadline was back in November if I remember correctly...
I've asked around to my nurse friends and no one has bad things to say about JU... so that's a plus...

Yes, this sounds about right! I was ranked 223 with 182.04 points! However, they had my points wrong and my points were actually 188! (Not that it made a difference! LOL)

When do you hear from JU??? Good luck =)
When do you hear from JU???
There is an interview process and an essay that they don't assign until after the interview... and you have 15 mins to write... Though they do tell you what the 4 possible topics are. I was told that we will receive an email by the end of this month scheduling the interview and then we should hear back by the end of March. SO, I should hear from JU right about the same time as FSCJ... Talk about stress. The only extra requirement JU had that FSCJ didn't (well besides having a Degree already) was Nutrition, which I am taking online right now via FSCJ and it's not bad.
You don't have to wait a year to get your bsn you can do it at unf or ju in 3 semesters after you earn your ADN, you only have to wait a year if you go to fscj for your bsn! Another thing for spring term the cutoff was 193 and I received my acceptance letter via email and snail mail exactly 6 weeks after deadline, each semester they send it out at different times! Spring 2009 found out in 2.5 weeks!!! You guys should know something by spring break! Enjoy your freedom now, you will miss it once you get accepted and you will spend A LOT OF $$$$$$ for first term! Books alone were $1000!
