FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...

Published

Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL

I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.

I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.

Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?

When I went to LPN school at fccj I ate slept and breathed nursing school. We had to learn everything about nursing in a year. So I agree. Enjoy your free te while it lasts:-)

Salena were you working at the same time?

I didn't work. School was 8-5 Mon through Fri. I spent a lot of my time studying.

So I've been out of town for almost a week, and I have to say its NOT fun to be back and obsessing about this wait! I missed a few pages of posts and it looks like everyone was posting their points. I applied with 213 and I'm hoping for nights/weekends. I also applied to JU & UNF and just hoping to hear some good news sooner than later!

I have a question for those that have applied to FSCJ as well as JU, UNF etc. Which is your school of choice? I assume that JU and UNF are BSN degrees but if you already have your AA it would take just as long to get your ASN as it would to get your BSN if you were accepted??? Does that question make sense? LOL

I haven't applied to UNF but I did apply to JU in addition to FSCJ. My preference is JU actually but my situation is a little different then most of the people on this thread. I already have a BS degree so in 16 months I'd have my BSN instead of 18 months for ASN. I believe that I've posted previously on this thread though that since the JU program I applied for is accelerated it is sort of scary. I will be living, breathing, drinking, eating Nursing for those 16 months.

I did not apply to UNF but only because they ONLY look at your undergraduate GPA when calculating your GPA. I was not an A/B student in Undergrad. I got smart, and started concentrating on school as a post grad taking graduate classes and while working on my pre-reqs for these programs. So my OVERALL GPA is awesome but for UNF's standards, I don't think I'd get in...

I think that most people would pick the highest degree possible for the lowest amount of Money or Time invested...

Does UNF have a nights/weekends option? I couldn't find any information about one which is why I applied to FSCJ instead of going for my BSN right out of the gate.

No, I think its just FSCJ.

Well I for one am taking another humanities to improve the "C" that I initially got in the early 90's. This should give me 6 extra points and I plan to retake the NAT on April 30th.

Salena and Jen, I also have a bachelor's degree..hmmm I had not considered JU because it sounds expensive. However as competitive as FSCJ is becoming I may have to take a 2nd look. I applied Summer with 191.60 but I'm not holding my breath! Hopefully I have a better chance for the Fall with additional points.

I read someone's post stating that they received an email letting them know they were accepted into Nursing program via email.. Is this true? Do they send emails?

Ms. Whitney you said that you graduated in August of 2009? How hard was the job market? I've heard alot of graduating students are having a hard time landing jobs in hospitals. Do you know if this is true of your graduating class?

This rn that graduated in august said nurses in her class had to go to gainesville to work because hospitals aren't hiring.

Hey all, I've been keeping up on this thread because I also applied for the summer program, I was wondering if anyone could answer a question for me that I have heard and read conflicting answer too. For your total score, do they use your MAC1105 score, or if you have taken a higher level course such as STA2023 do they use that grade? And does this apply to ENC1101/1102?

Thanks in advance!
