Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL
I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.
I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.
Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?
Jen,So you got accepted in JU??? for the accelerated program? That's awesome! So basically all you are doing is waiting on the interview appointment and compleing the essay. The important thing is that they liked your credentials enough to get in right?
No I got into the school JU. It's my understanding that you can not get into the nursing program without the interview or essay... and I have gotten neither. So the school wants my money but the nursing program maybe not so much... It's a 2 part process. You apply to both separately and have to get accepted by both. From what I've heard on the JU board, everyone pretty much gets the academic scholarship. Sounds like they need to reduce the tuition if that's the case.
Honestly I think I did not get in to JU. Which I'm okay with if that's the case... b/c it is a little pricey. I just wish they'd let me know sooner rather later.
Jen,
Oh now I understand. You got into JU but not into the nursing program as of yet. Well Hopefully you will get in FSCJ this round. How many points are you applying with, I'm 191.60. As stated before I dont think I will make this round but am currently taking a humanities class which years ago I made a "C" on and retaking the NAT. Hopefully I can apply next semester with over 200 points.
I thought you could only take a course over if you failed with D or F??
I'm new on here... Applying to fall 2010 without Micro completed so I will probably have a slim chance even though my grades are good, I need those Micro points Im sure. I will have a good chance for Spring I think. I am taking the NAT for first time in a few days, then will only have 1 more chance before June app deadline. I have a bachelor degree so I am not eligible for Pell grants. Does anyone know how much money is available in Student Loans each semester?
Also, I am looking for a roomy. I have nice house, nice neighborhood off Atlantic/San Pablo.
Good luck everyone!

you can borrow up to $10,000 per academic year (that's for all three semesters, fall, spring, summer) in student loans at fscj. you may not be eligible for subsidized loans, but you should still have no problem fully funding your nursing school with unsubsidized loans since $3,000 is more than you'll need to cover books, fees and tuition each semester.
after that, the only real problem is getting a job that pays enough to cover your student loan payments within 6 months of graduation when your payments start.
Ssmitha,
That is true about you cant retake a class but I'm not taking that exact same humanities class. I'm taking another version of humanites and they take the one with the highest grades. I am in the same boat as you, I dont qualify for any pell grants since I also have a Bachelor's degree. It's amazing how many people are going back to school looking for a new career!
Thanks guys!
Well, I took the NAT today and didnt get what I needed. I got 97.28 I estimate that my points would be 186 (without Micro) with that NAT score and after this semester grades. Not good enough to get accepted I know. BUT...I will certainly raise my score when I retake but thats not until May 25th now. I can definately take the test better and stop earlier on the timer and guess at more instead of running out. Also, on the reading, I tried to answer questions without really reading on the 1st passage. I now know to read it. I read the 2nd and 3rd and did better, but ran out of time because I screwed up on the first one by not reading it and trying to find the answers. I bet that when I retake the NAT I can end up with at least 195 total points for my application!!! Anything less isnt going to get me accepted. You really cant study for the NAT, its just a knowledge and test taking ability. I need 6 more points on that baby to have a good chance!!!!
Also, this is all WITHOUT Micro. The worst case scenario is I have to wait until Spring 2011. With an A in Micro, that would give me 202 points even with the first NAT score, so realistically it would be higher after the retake
Basically, I will hard pressed to get in Fall 2010, but piece of cake for Spring 2011!!! I'm still excited about that! I'm releasing energy as I type.
Are many of you worried about getting a job after school? I know it will all work out in the end, but it might be a struggle. I am thinking I may apply to the LPN program. If I get in thatin Fall and not R.N., I will take it as a sign from above or divine intervention or something. Then I will Bridge ASAP and not have difficulty getting hired. No my first choice, but maybe something to think about. Any thoughts?
FYI to last poster about the LPN bridge, it would be better and faster to just wait until Spring 2011 for the RN program. The bridge is the exact same length as the RN program. So if you start the LPN program in Fall 2010, you won't start the RN "bridge" until spring 2012 or later, and then you'll have 16 months till you're done with the RN program, 2014 or later. 4 additional months is a much better bet. You'll be done with RN by 2012. IMO as a graduate from the RN program with MANY LPN's in my classes.
