FCCJ Spring 2008

Published

I guess all of you are going thru the same feelings I am right now. I have turned in my application at FCCJ for the 2008 spring term and it is killing me. The more I read on here the more frightened I get. This is my first time applying and I am so nervous!!! Any words of advice to get me thru this???

i went for fingerprinting today... their credit card machine was not working so i had to go across the street to the atm. (in the rain and with my 2 year old) so if plan to use your credit/ debit card bring check or cash just incase they dont have it working yet...

I go to my fingerprinting at noon on Friday. (taking an extended lunch)

And I do my medical exam (physical, immunization, etc) tomorrow morning at my dr appt. I swear my boss is already over working with me on my schedule! Oh well.. this will be all of it until January.

Can I just say "THANKS" to all of you on this site. I swear this has been about the only reliable source of information. I don't know where I'd be (somewhere uninformed amd grumpy) without all of your input and info sharing!

Hello, I got accepted into the daytime nursing program at FCCJ, and I was wondering how the first term schedule would be like? Does anybody know any previous term students who could pass on the info?

Thanks

i posted about this earlier...

if you want to get an idea of how your schedule may look like, right outside of the nursing office is a bulletin board with all of the schedules for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th term fall 2007. you can't miss it, it's all neon colored paper -- yellow, pink, blue, and i think green!

p.s. everyone's schedule is different, some may go all days of the week, some may only go 3x a week

my schedule:

monday - 3:00-5:30pm TESTING

wednesday - 9:30am-12:00pm CONCEPTS; 1:00pm-4:00pm HEALTH ASSESSMENT

friday - 7:00am-2:30pm TECHNIQUES

pharmacology is online. rumor has it that all spring 08 students will be taking it online... scary!

and i think our clincals are from 7a-3:00 or 3:30pm

Thanks Miss Rochelle. It's really nice to have someone around that has gone through all of this, to point us newbies in the right direction. Did the administrators, by any chance, have some of the nursing students or graduates from previous programs years sit in, and give their takes on the program at your orientation?

Marisha

Rochelle, the term 1 schedules weren't there when I looked today...

but like she said, you could go 3 days, with testing on Mondays.

My schedule was

Mon testing 3-5:30

Tues Concepts 8-11, Assessment 1-4

Wed Pharm 9-12

Thurs Techiniques 7-3

off on Friday.......

BUt there are all sorts of schedules available.

TDA88- I'd definitely call there. Did you read my earlier post? They sent me a denial letter last Friday, due to a computational mistake. Yesterday, I received my acceptance packet. I do think there's some issues in that Nursing office- and the staff were incredibly rude!!

The cut-off was 176.72, so if you had more points than that, you made it. (unless they screwed yours up like they did mine...)

I saw a post that mentioned an ins. company that would help pay for shots for nursing students.... do you have any more info on that?

I found my packet! FCCJ called me to tell me that the post office had returned it because of an unknown address error. Who knows. Now that I officially know that I'm in the program.. I can breathe easy!

Thanks to everyone that replied about the reservation date.

I'm not sure about an insurance company that would help pay for shots. I have no medical insurance and my girlfriend who was in the program in '04 paid almost $500 for hers. Yikes! I'm going to contact DCHD (Duval County Health Department) for available clinics. For those of you in Clay visit this site- http://www.doh.state.fl.us/.

For FINANCIAL AID my friend told me that there is a program called WORK FORCE, which pays for some of your expenses..... kind of like a grant I guess bc you don't have to pay it back. I'm not sure if FCCJ still uses it, but many of her classmates used it (she found out too late) and eliminated their costs tremendously! All you have to do is sign up and get a signature from your teacher every week to show proof of attendance. That's it! Sounds easy enough, right? I'm going to look into it further and keep y'all posted on that.

As far as books go I've also received advice on whether or not to buy now or later. For the beginning of the term you would definitely want to buy ALL of your textbooks because we will be using them the first day of class. I guess you could wait on the others until our teachers tell us which ones we could do without.

CONGRATS TDA88 on your acceptance!:welcome: Cheers!

It's actually called Worksource. The website is www.worksourcefl.com

I have an appt. to talk with the lady in Clay County next week. Definitely call them!!

And, Congrats!

I just got a call from Deerwood's Financial Aid office- they are reversing their decision and approving me for loans! YAY! I can finally celebrate!

See?! I'm truly so happy for you! Maybe you can use this experience to help you when we're all feeling overwhelmed in the midst of nursing school. You have proof that perserverance pays off. Congrats!
