I guess all of you are going thru the same feelings I am right now. I have turned in my application at FCCJ for the 2008 spring term and it is killing me. The more I read on here the more frightened I get. This is my first time applying and I am so nervous!!! Any words of advice to get me thru this???
Miss Rochelle,I just got into the rn program for spring 08 and had some questions for you if you have time. Did you do the Hep B Vacs or opt out? The background check, what receipt do they want, the full report? The forms for the fingerprinting, do they take those from you at the time of the appointment and is there anything that I have to turn into FCCJ or is all that info sent to them? With the drug screen, do they give you the results to take to fccj or are they sent directly to them. I don't know why I seem to be so confused. I think it is nerves... Definitely don't want to screw up. Thanks in advance for you help!
As far as my hep b vacs go, i had the series done 10 years ago but my titers weren't positive (but they were close), so i opted out. that reminds me, i have to get a hep b booster soon... haha.
when i turned in my info for the background check, i believe i gave them the receipt and the whole report, just in case.
i don't remember how fingerprinting went, i think they did take some forms and gave some back.
drug screen results are sent directly to fccj -- there is one lady at fccj who specifically deals with background checks/fingerprinting/drug screens, so all that info gets sent to her and she will notify you if anything comes up or if you have to get re-fingerprinted (which i had to), etc.
make sure to make a copy of everything you turn in for your personal records! at our orientation we were told that they have over 1 million sheets of paper they deal with, so something is bound to get lost!
hope that helps, if you have any more questions feel free to ask them. :)
Thanks so much Miss Rochelle!!!
Now it seems to make a more sense. I think I am just feeling a little anxious about the whole thing. I really didn't expect to get in and I don't know anyone in the program or anyone that got in the program. So at this point, I am definitely going at this alone. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that everything gets done and I get everything turned in.
Do they automatically sign you up for the first term classes? I know as of now there are no nursing classes on artemis. Also, when is tuition usually due?
Thanks again for all your help!

nope, you literally pick numbers out of a bucket! in our case, the lower numbers had first pick of what classes/section they wanted to be in.
tuition is usually due a few days, like 3-5 days after you sign up for what section you want to be in.
if you want to get an idea of how your schedule may look like, right outside of the nursing office is a bulletin board with all of the schedules for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th term fall 2007. you can't miss it, it's all neon colored paper -- yellow, pink, blue, and i think green! haha.
Is anyone else using financial aid? I have never used financial I've always just paid for my classes, but this is ALOT! So I'm going through the process of applying now.. How does it work exactly?
Hi Heatherp77- I applied for Financial Aid too. It's kind of a pain. I did it online through FAFSA's website: https://fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/fotw0708/FFOTWServlet;jsessionid=0001MsIx4-299lXm2Egu_GaWZMX:120nslfdv
In a few weeks, you will get a letter from FCCJ informing you if you qualified for grants or loans. I was only able to take out a loan, and I am taking out the max so I will have to attend a 1 hour class at FCCJ tomorrow because of it.(some new requirement) There is a really helpful woman at Deerwood's Financial Aid desk. I would HIGHLY recommend paying her a visit- there was a lot of information that I was unaware of until I spoke with her. I think her name is Rosemary?
Lastly- The thing most frustrating for me is that any dispursement checks won't actually get to you until several weeks into the course. You will have to get creative on how to get all your books, materials, uniforms - unless you have that part set aside already.
Hope that helps!
ok, so i just did my ppd test today and i have to come back for the titers on rubella and varicella.. and i think possibly tetorifice.. the immunization thing is driving me nuts! i dont want to screw up and lose my spot. all this work is draining my budget!
a lady in the physicians office told me about an insurance policy regarding the state and full time nursing students where they pay for your shots and everything.. anyone heard about a similar program?:uhoh21:
UGGGHH!! Really? I can't believe they wouldn't give you the money you need for books!! Oh what a pain! I'll def. go talk to the lady at Deerwood. There really has to be a better way...
ARGH! This is so frustrating! I just got a letter from the financial aid dean saying I was denied fin aid because of the 150% rule (if you have 150% of the credits needed for an assoc degree, which is 60 credits, they say you are not making "satisfactory progress") Of course I have more credits than that- I have a B.S. degree! How is that not satisfactory progress!?!?? So now, I am signed up for the required financial aid class tomorrow (and had to take an extended lunch break from work to do so) and I have been DENIED aid??? So I guess I will be seeking out the financial aid lady as well... I could cry! I worked this hard to get in...
I have yet to receive anything from FCCJ. They told me they mailed out the letters last Thursday. Weird. Is anyone else waiting for their letter? :/
Wow, I've never heard of the 150% rule........ Try looking for other methods of aid tho. Don't give up! Scholarships and so forth. I know that there were a few other options in getting FREE aid. I'm gonna look into it and fill you guys in when I get a chance.
Best of luck,
