I guess all of you are going thru the same feelings I am right now. I have turned in my application at FCCJ for the 2008 spring term and it is killing me. The more I read on here the more frightened I get. This is my first time applying and I am so nervous!!! Any words of advice to get me thru this???
So, I think I'm done or really close to being done with everything. I did my finger printing, drug screen, and physical exam today with all the titers and shots too. I also did the background thing online and faxed in the paper it said to. So, am I done? I'm gonna have to look through it again and just make sure. Now, all I have to do is buy everything! Luckily, I have two credit cards headed my way to help with that! Otherwise, I'd be broke!
BTW, Northside Medical Clinic where you get your drug screen done has special FCCJ pricing for the physical exam, titers, and shots. So, if I were you I'd go there if you don't have insurance. It was much cheaper then the other places I called!
you will buy your nursing unifomrs from a website. The orientataion doesnt actually make too many of your supplies avaialbel to you. You will for sure need money for the skills kit ( this is like your one time chance to buy it). make sure you get ALL of your books before leaving orientataion- you will have homework!
we were suppoed to have varrious people there at orientataion to talk to us--- half of them did not show up- We did not have any seasoned nursing students theer to talk to us... suuggestion to you all is to try to agree to meet ups eomwheer at northcampus before orienatation- meet eachother and hope to get intto the same section!... good luck!

Ummm, are book vouchers available to us on the day of orientation?
They'll have all our books available to buy at Orientation? Not sure how I'll afford that!!! Financial aid has always taken care of everything for me- I won't have it in time for that though.
I was going to try Solantic.. Do you know if Northside Medical Clinic is cheaper than them? Also, do you have to make an appt. there for the physical/shots? I know you don't for the drug test.
So far, I have completed the online background check and fingerprinting. Still, a lot to do!
It doesn't say specifically in our paperwork: Do our shoes have to be ALL white? And is there a certain type we have to have? Also, I thought I read in another post that we could get our pants from somewhere other than the online compay they provided.. Is that true? It's hard to know which ones to order online, since you can't try them on!! Drawstring or not? Any info. would help....
I used to get the book voucher.. but i didnt this semester-- you will have to check with fin-aid to see when those will be avaiable. I would suggest trying to pick up you books as soon as you can ( BUY USED!) books get crazy expesnive... but you will for sure use them (( though my class has not used the RNotes or nutrinotes-- you may get away without having to buy those) If you cant afford all ofyour books at orientataion.. be sure to pick up the med terminology and the doage calc books. You will have homework in them. BUT get your other books ASAP!
Well ... I ended up pricing things out and it ended up being cheaper at N. Med clinic. So thats where I went. As far as the pants.. If you know how to alter them ( or know where to go to get them altered) your best bet is to order them through the website. If you just totally dont like that idea you can go shopping else where for other pants-- just plain white scrub pants--no cargo pockets.. no flares- no "logos"--(( word to the wise.. the pants' waist will go up to your boobs!)) Shoes have to be white leather. can be tennies but you have to make sure they are all white!.. I bought nurse mates-dove. They felt cushy and they didnt have laces to get undone. You cannot wear crocs. Your socks must also be white-- may I suggest the "compression" socks.

Solantic was one of the places I called and they wanted double what northside medical clinic wanted... so did my regular dr... who in turn is my gyn. So, yeah they're def cheaper. I had all of my stuff done when I got my drug screen done. I go back tomorrow for them to look at my arm where they did the ppd. and possibly have my titers back because we have to turn that in apparently. There is no appointment necessary for you to have anything done there... but do expect to be there 2 hours as I was!!!
As far as uniforms go I would just go ahead and order all of it from that site. That way you don't end up with something you can't wear. Also, I would get drawstring... elastic just looks and feels weird.
I hope to God I can use my book voucher if we have to get all of our books that day otherwise the credit cards coming in the mail are already maxed out! This is what I got them for so... so be it!
I think our shoes have to be white leather... look in your packet though.
As far as books go...can you get them from another source (half.com, amazon.com, etc) or do you have to buy them at orientation? Does anyone know anyone who has bought them online? If so, how was their experience?
I know a 3rd semester student who bought all of his 1st semester books USED from amazon for $500.

i actually would not recommend drawstring pants. maybe it's just me, but i have worn drawstring scrub pants in the past and have had trouble with them falling off of my hips! elastic pants are really not that bad, they stay put!
the less tying you have to do, the better!

Does anyone know someone who has taken Pharmacology online that would like to share their expericence? I heard that it's the hardest out of all of our 1st term courses.
