Hello all! Hopefully all of you out there accepted to the Fall 2009 RN program at FCCJ will join me on this thread so we can help each other out. I went today to get my pants and found some of the white ones (come in petites and tall with flared legs and slits to fit over our shoes, Cherokee brand, $13.99) at Uniform Outlet at the St Augustine outlet mall. They also carry the pocket organizers (with flat scissors and pen light included), stethoscope (inexpensive ones, so they may not be of the quality you are looking for) and all the BP cuff things we need.
I am waiting until orientation to order my polo and uniformed top so that we may be able to try them on. Does anyone know what is included in the skills kit and if they will be available at orientation?
I am getting excited and can't wait to meet everyone!
I think everything ships at one time according to the dates in our packet. So acording to that we should have everything in by Sept 29th. I don't think there is anything that we ordered from Meridy's that we need before cliniclas start in week 8. The only thing I wonder about is my stethescope that I ordered through them. When you call please let us know what they say. Thanks!

and anyone else who is in the same boat about the physicals....
I spoke with Nurse at FCCJ and she told me that even if the titers came back negative as long as I had started the necessary injections and she received a positive titer report by the time clinical's started that would be fine.
She did also say to review the lab report while you were still at the doctors office and if any of the titers were neg to go ahead and get the shot you need right then and there. She wants to ensure that people are taking the proper action to get things done in a timely manner. She also said she could not let ANY student start clinical's without the required vaccinations.
I know this is all very frustrating..but hang in there.. they may not seem like it but they will work with us if we play by their rules and jump through the hoops....remember they have to protect the real patients at the same time the staff do want to see us succeed.
I would also suggest that if you do not think that you are going to get results back in time..Call the Nurse and talk to her. She is a little gruff at first but be patient and take your time with her and be respectful and she will eventually warm up. Keep in mind she has rules she has to follow from not only the school but the hospitals as well.
As far a northside clinic goes they only take cash or credit no checks or insurance..as far as costs go I paid $215.00 total for the physical, mmr and varic titers, hep B vac, Tdap vac, and TB test.
Lastly....Breathe...the bureaucracy is just beginning...We all have a long tuff road ahead. But it will be fun and challenging and in the end we will be successful and attain the common goal...RN at the end of our names.
Good Luck to All..
PS... I was at Statline today and it looked liked they had plenty of kits but do call ahead it is a bit scary of a local.
Stat line kits
I went this morning and got my kit. There were 6 (after mine) left but the lady said she had a few hidden for extras and that she will be getting more in soon. She also asked me to pass along that she will have enough for everyone and that she is waiting for more to come in. The problem was that fccj told them that we would not be getting our acceptance letters in the mail until Aug 17. I hope this helps
I called statline almost two weeks ago to place my order and they said they would call me when the order came in and they never did. I guess I will call in the morning to see if they still have some before driving all the way out there. Surely they know how many of us there are so we all should be able to get one before classes start. I also called last week to order my polo shirt and they were supposed to call me and didn't. Does anyone if you go by florida specialty to pick it up or do you pick it up and pay for it at orientation?
Thanks. I went to Stat-Line today and bought my skills kit. They only had about 3-4 available but were in the process of putting more together. So now I've got everything I need except for the polo shirt and hemostat. Does anyone have suggestions on where to purchase the right 6 inch hemostat that we will need? I can't believe orientation is only a few days away and school starts in a little over two weeks! OMG!! I'm getting more excited by the day!
