FCCJ Fall 09 RN

Nursing Students General Students

Hello all! Hopefully all of you out there accepted to the Fall 2009 RN program at FCCJ will join me on this thread so we can help each other out. I went today to get my pants and found some of the white ones (come in petites and tall with flared legs and slits to fit over our shoes, Cherokee brand, $13.99) at Uniform Outlet at the St Augustine outlet mall. They also carry the pocket organizers (with flat scissors and pen light included), stethoscope (inexpensive ones, so they may not be of the quality you are looking for) and all the BP cuff things we need.

I am waiting until orientation to order my polo and uniformed top so that we may be able to try them on. Does anyone know what is included in the skills kit and if they will be available at orientation?

I am getting excited and can't wait to meet everyone!

ok well i am freaking out now because the only day i can go get everything done is thursday with the titers and physical and i wont get the results in time???? what do i do about that?

Im not sure when we have to get the id for, but to get the skills kit you have to go to stat line which is on haines street, the address is in the packet. Its kinda scary and doesnt look like it would have medical supplies, but it does lol. Just look for a bunch of old, broken ambulances parked inside some really tall chain link fencing.

I guess if your in the day program it just doesnt say anything, but if you are in night/weekend then it specifies. Im pretty sure Im in the day program b/c mine didnt specify, but I put on my app that I only wanted days.

I don't think stat-line comes to orientation to give the skills kits away, I think the nursing department has some that they give away. But I woouldn't depend on that. I'm going to try to get mine on Monday.

AmberFCCJ, I am in the same position. I have my physical scheduled for Wed and was going to have my titers drawn then, but reading the posts I think that is too late. I did do a search for forums about titers at FCCJ and I found some posts that said if we don't have our results in time for orientation to not sweat it, as long as you show that you've had them drawn and you have positive results by the 8th week when clinicals start then you should be fine. But I am not trusting that 100 percent. That could just be someones opinion and not fact. Solantic opens in 15 minutes and I am going to give them a call and inquire about how long it takes for results and I will let you know what I find out.

OK, I called Solantic. They said that you can come in today to have titers drawn, but to come before 11. They get picked up at noon. If you wait to come in after noon you might as well come in on Monday b/c the blood will be no good for running tests after sitting all weekend. They should have results in 24-72 hours. So that is what I am going to do. They may be more expensive than other places, but the clock is ticking.

Yeah solantic may be a little expensive. im trying to switch my schedule so i can go monday to that northside clinic. thats good though about getting the results quickly. have you gotten any thing else yet? i just back from out of counrty and have been working everyday since lol. i still need uniforms and hemostat, bp cuff, scissors etc.

in fact i am the one you are referring to and i got this directly from another nursing student, so just because stat line didnt know does not mean that the staff did not hand out free ones!

It was pretty expensive. Almost 300 for everything. But they will have my results in Monday, Tuesday at the latest. I ordered my uniforms, shoes, stethescope, scissors, pocket protector, etc from Meridy's. I still need the skills kit which Im going to get that on Monday morning and I'm going to get my BP cuff from them too. Got a passport photo from Walgreens. The only thing I have left is to get an ID from FCCJ.

Have you done your background check and fingerprinting yet?

do you know how much it was just for a mmr titer?? and does solastic take insurance??

sorry, Tiara I didn't know you meant the school gave them out, all of this is just really confusing so I was just giving the info. I had. I didnt mean to offend you in any way.

The MMR titer was 115.00 Vericella was 125.00. They don't take insurance for titers and vaccinations for some reason. But they are fast, and that is what I needed.

does the northside clinic take insurance? if not how much was everything there? i havent got anything done yet. fingerprints and all that going to do next week. i got a coupon in the mail for uniforms and bp cuff etc from "orange park place" on blanding. it says 35 dollars for bp cuff. is that a good price?

solantic does NOT bill insurance for titers...if you have a PCP they will bill your insurance.

you will be looking at 325 for all the titers...
