FCCJ Fall 09 RN

Published

Hello all! Hopefully all of you out there accepted to the Fall 2009 RN program at FCCJ will join me on this thread so we can help each other out. I went today to get my pants and found some of the white ones (come in petites and tall with flared legs and slits to fit over our shoes, Cherokee brand, $13.99) at Uniform Outlet at the St Augustine outlet mall. They also carry the pocket organizers (with flat scissors and pen light included), stethoscope (inexpensive ones, so they may not be of the quality you are looking for) and all the BP cuff things we need.

I am waiting until orientation to order my polo and uniformed top so that we may be able to try them on. Does anyone know what is included in the skills kit and if they will be available at orientation?

I am getting excited and can't wait to meet everyone!

Hey secdegreemom,

Thanks for starting a new thread! I can't wait to start and meet everyone. I have some info and some questions.....

I bought my white pants at the uniform outlet too, the one on Blanding, they have lots of brands and styles in white. I bought a littman II classic se stethoscope at medisave.com and I bought my hemostat, bandage scissors, and bp cuff at allheart.com (they have really good pricing).

Just a tip---I called to see if it was possible if I could get my physical the 6th of August and they said NO, you have to wait until the 7th so dont get it early! And also make sure when you do your PPD(tuberculosis screen) the place will be open in 24 hours so you can go back to rechecked.

Question:What hospitals are you thinking about doing clinicals at?? I dont know which are good? Also, does anyone know the names of some good professors?

I have heard that they randomly give out skills kits at orientation for free! I also ordered my scope from medisave and got a 5% discount! I would like to go to either Baptist or Memorial. Yes and go get your blood test this week so that you can have your results in time(I got this from crystal)!

If you go to ratemyprofessor . com then you just look under our school and scroll to the nursing department and there is a list of the professors. I have also heard their are some professors who have yet to make their name on at ratemyprofeesor website.

Skills kits..grrr i went there last week and they were out after I called them two days prior and they said they had plently...they are supposed to call me friday to let me know when they have more.

I am going to wait until after orientation to pick it up, with the hopes just for what Tiara mentioned :)

I got my pants at life uniform, they were 13 bucks each. I called the polo people and just let them know what size I would need and she was just taking note on how many to bring for the orientation.

I had my sister look at the list (she graduated from this program two years ago) and most of what they want us to order from Merdys can be passed on.

This is what is suggested:

Two uniform shirts

One lab coat (even though it will be rare we will wear it)

and the Name pins

I have my physical appointment on the 10th, ive had my titers drawn just waiting for the results.

My confusion is having to go to the business office to have a picture taken for an ID, but we still have to have a passport photo?? ugh

SO excited about going back to school and I cannot wait to meet everyone :)

I think the skills kit contains things like catheter, pen light...things like that. I know I heard or read somewhere that they will have skills kits that will be given away at Orientation.

Hello All

Thanks for starting this thread.

I called and asked about the photo Id, I was told it was the standard student Id nothing special about it. If you already have one from pre-reqs then you do not need another.

If anyone is interested I live in Mandarin and I called around for prices on Physicals and Titers etc, The least expensive place that I found was the Northside Clinic where we have to go to get the drug test. They are almost $300 cheaper than any of the other walk-ins in the area. I know it is a long drive but for the money savings it is worth it. The staff know exactly what you need and are mostly friendly. It is walk in only so be ready to wait if they are busy. I went and was there about 2 hours total. I waited in the waiting room about 20 mins.

Good luck to all

I think that the ID is for school purposes...you can have that done at ANY campus..I called and asked. The passport photo is going to be put on some kind of nametag for clinical settings or to go in our files..just a guess.

some people are having trouble finding your post. i searched fccj fall 09 RN and nothing came up. i just searched your screen name and finally found this lol. i just got back from out of the country and was wondering about everything as well. thanks for the uniform place! have you done anything else yet? im going thursday to get my physical and drug screening and all that stuff. i am really small and feel uncomfortable about ordering uniforms online so i didnt really want to order the ones from meridys but i think we have to because it has a patch on it?

Am I the only one who is using their insurance for the physical and titers?

If I am understanding you correctly you went and had your physical done, I hope not because it has to be dated after Aug 7, not before then or they will not accept it!

Tiara RN2010:

I am using my insurance for mine. Most insurances will cover the physical/check-ups as long as it has been a full year since your last one.

AmberFCCJ:

I am only 5'2" so I was uncomfortable ordering online as well and am glad I didn't...the regular length scrubs were ridiculous on me. I think we have to order our tops from Meridy's because they are specially designed for FCCJ students, but I am waiting until orientation to find out/try them on to get the right size (same with the polos).

Anyone know if our "pocket protector" is the same as a belt clip organizer? Has anyone bought this yet? I got the organizer, but am not sure it is the right thing. It came with a pen light, flat tip scissors and a chart pen.
