Nurses General Nursing

hello evryone,

if u remember me i finally graduated school, i took the boards on july 25 and failed which left me hearbroken i would love to hear any suggestions regarding the nclexrn, but thats the least of my problems. i have been fired from my current job, accused of misrepresenting myself as an rn without the proper credentials i have already contacted my lawyer through nso and she has advised me to take a class on ethics. the only thing i am guilty of is signing rn on a piece of paper at an inservice for which i take full responsibility for (my stupidity got the better of me) but i do not assume responsibility for the other complaints. My lawyer says i need to take this course on line for nurse ethics to have it ready for when we receive the infamous letter from the BON but i'm having a devil of a time trying to find one.

Has anyone out there ever experienced anything like this before, if so do u have any suggestions on how to proceed, and also do u know of any websites i can go to for this course. rite now i feel completely hopeless, am i ever going to get a license.

:crying2: :crying2:

Hi there. Am unsure what you need and for why? You signed your name: Jane Smith, RN when you weren't an RN? Then you need an ethics class? But, if you aren't an RN, the BON won't be contacting you, it would be a criminal offense right? I'm confused...sorry.

I don't have much advice, but I hope you've learned from the experience to not misrepresent yourself, no matter how "close" you seem to be.

I haven't found anything online yet.

What can you learn from this experience?

I don't know if I'm understanding everything you're saying, but it seems to me that what you were doing was illegal. I'm sorry, but I really have no sympathy for you and it scares me that someone who impersonates a nurse could actually be one someday.

Are you saying that since July you've been signing your name as an RN and working as an RN, or did you just do it recently sign you name as RN as an oversight? :uhoh21:

So you have been working as a GN since graduation, and now have been fired b/c you failed NCLEX? You signed your name as RN at an inservice and now you are being charged with misrepresenting yourself? Sorry, but your post is a little unclear.

I hope everything works out for you. You can re-take boards and find either an online or correspondance course for ethics and nursing. Do a google search for nursing continuing education credits or courses. You should get some good links.

The BON is contacted when a person misrepresents themselves as an RN. There is a list of such persons published by the Florida BON (or maybe it was the NC board when I lived there). I've seen it in their newsletters. However in this day of internet, checking licensure is no biggie.

It doesn't seem like they have any power to "punish" this person, but they might have the power to withhold licensure whether or not this person passes boards.

When a person who is not licensed misrepresents him/herself and practices under the auspices of a professional license, this is a criminal offense. So, the BON will be involved and could file criminal charges......

If you only signed RN after your name at an in-service, that is one thing, though still unethical~ what are the other complaints? If you told your employer that you are indeed an RN then yes, you should be fired.

If you're looking for information on a nursing ethics class to take, try contacting local colleges and universities. The BON may withhold licensure but then again they may not, depending on how significant your impersonation was.

hello everyone,

this is fat ankles, first i want to say thank u for replying to my thread i also want to answer you're questions---i did not pretend to be something i'm not, i was working as a gn after i graduated and after i took the the boards and failed i immediately repoted it to my don, for a while there everything was ok-my instructor said i had a bad case of test anxiety-then all of a sudden i was called into the office and told that i was misrepresenting myself as an rn without the proper credentials, now the don had been suspended pending an investigation---never once did i tell anyone i was an rn---i did unfortunately sign an inservice as rn which read 11-4-04----fat ankles----nsg----rn, that was the only time i did that which was an oversight on mt part and also very stupid, all my documentation was signed gn until i was appointed the new unit manager over the sub-acute unit then i changed it to fat ankles, unit manager. i never practiced as an rn and everything i did do i had to do with a licensed rn present which there always was and he already submitted his statement on my behalf, markjrn- i actually agree with u and if i had done such a thing everything i get i deserve but in this instance i did not

i want to thank u all for you're comments and advice u didnt have to reply but im glad u did i will try those websites and see what i come up with

siri-- please advise i did not do this thing

Hello, fat ankles,:balloons:

I am somewhat confused now. You say you signed the roster on 11-04-04? A year ago? So, you have been a GN for over a year now without taking the NCLEX again? And, you are the unit manager? I need a little more info...

As for the DON being suspended, what does that have to do with anything? Just not sure how this is relevant to your case???

What exactly are you accused of doing besides signing RN after your name?

If you could answer these questions and offer any further comment, it might offer some clarity.
