Hi guys. I'm new to posting but I've been a long time lurker. I just wanted to know if anyone is in or is planning to attend Farmingdale State College. I want to go there but I want to know some more information about it. What are the pre-reqs for the LPN program? What is the lowest composite score that they look at? All other schools tell you this but I can't find that info anywhere on Farmingdale's website. I'm currently studying for the exam (even though I have NO IDEA when the next PAX-PN test is being given in NY). I got a B in Psych and also a B is English. I have to re-take A&P1 in the Fall because I didn't do so well in it. I'm trying my hardest to get an A in it so that they'll at least consider me for the program. I'm sorry for the long post but I'm just panicking because I have no clue what I'm really doing lol. I'd love if anyone/everyone could help me out. What other pre-reqs do I need for the PN program? Is it really hard to get into? I'm pretty much freaking out about....EVERYTHING:banghead:. I just don't feel like I'm doing enough. Seriously, do you all think I have a good shot at getting in with the grades I stated above?
Its difficult, stressful, and takes over your life....but we all knew this when we applied for nursing school. The amount I learned in the first semester is wonderful!!! By the time it was over I was able to perform procedures I never thought I could, and attained knowlege that went beyond my expectations. Farmingdale has PLENTY of staff, flexible clinical sites and NOBODY has job placement SAK, not in NY anyway. Nobody is going to hold your hand, we are adults responsible for our own education. The resources are there, you need to use them. While learning in clinical, Farmingdale students are on the floor the whole time, while other schools do a lot of paperwork like care-plans, that are not used in the real world bc its imbedded in your head. We do the careplans as well, and only in my second semester I can rattle them off from my head. Our hands on learning is emphasized rather than paperwork which is done at home. I work my ass off and refuse to allow someone to put down a school that has taught me sooooo much in only 9 months. Be ready to work, be ready to stress, be ready to learn. Nursing is a HUGE responsibility. You will make lifelong friends in nursing school, you are in for a bumpy but amazing ride. Enjoy your ride, it goes really fast. FARMINGDALE IS A FANTASTIC SCHOOL CONGRATULATIONS! BTW Ill see you around, Ill be a 3rd year student.

LOL...I've never expected hand holding even in my undergrad courses. It is what you make of it, and what you put into it. I know if you can't independently study and learn you won't make it in any NS. (I find it amusing the amount of people that don't realize what you have written when starting NS).
Where you able to purchase the medical dictionary/drug guides of your choice? Or did the Prof. make you purchase a specific one. 1 last question....are you allowed to you laptops in class, and an itouch for clinicals? Thanks for your help. Congrats on your hard work and dedication!

Yes on itouch for clinical, yes on labtop, they give a booklist at orientation, we uses the lippencott Nurses drug handbook which I love. Suddenly you get the "BIG PICTURE" when everything comes together in clinicals by your second semester. I love nursing "A-HA" moments!
Thank you so much!!

Hello Everyone, Congrats to those who got in, not sure if ppl are still replying to posts here but I just wanted some advice... I want to apply to any nursing program in nyc... I'm a 22YR OLD LPN and my grades are a&p1- B a&p2- B+ psych b+, eng1- A- hum dvlpmnt c+ and sociology c+ 3.0 GPA IN THOSE COURSES ... those c's are bad i know... next semester ill be taking Microbiology, English 2, child dvlpmnt and nutrition... ANY ADVICE ON MY CHANCES OF GETTING INTO A PROGRAM ?? WHICH SCHOOLS SHOULD I APPLY TO?? IVE NEVER APPLIED TO ANY SCHOOLS BEFORE AND IM AFRAID OF THE PROCESS BECAUSE NURSING IS SO COMPETITIVE
I think they focus more on your gpa for the pre-reqs you need. PLus the NLN pre entrance exam. I had one bad semester at the College I got my Bachelors from, they asked me about it, I explained what happened and they were satisfied because the rest of my grades, esp for the specific pre-req courses were good.
Good Luck!

Oh okay, lucky you then!
I have a long road ahead of me. But I've been talking to a few of the girls from the BSN program, we're planning on sticking together through it all. :redbeathe Can't wait.
