Fall 2011 UT Houston Health Sciences hopefuls

Published

I am a ut houston hopeful applying for the pacesetter and traditional programs for fall 2011! I will be done with my pre-req's: engl 1302 and hist 1302 this spring 2011. I plan on taking the hesi the beginning of December since the deadline for ut-houston has been changed to Jan 15. 2011. I wish everybody good luck as were getting down to the wire!!1 Anyone else out there?

So now that there are no interviews, we are left to the mercy of the numbers game. There are around 80 slots to fill for the Fall 2011 semester and because of UT's affirmative action those 80 slots would be divided by the percentages of the state's racial categories. Has anyone even considered your chances now that you know since 2006 UT has been practicing the taboo subject of affirmative action?

Actually, there are 130 slots. 80 for the generic program, and 50 for the pacesetters program. Also, how do you know that's what they use? I don't think it's right to assume or spread information like that unless you know it to be true.

Well said, both of you :) Why don't we redirect back to more constructive topics?

So 130 people total get admitted...that's something I was wondering about. I always heard that 80 people get in, but then they started saying 50 people for Pacesetter...Did they always admit 130, but now 50 of those are going for Pacesetter? Or was it just 80 people, but the program has expanded for 50 more students? And I wonder for the spring admits, do they just take 80 at that time or is it 130? Because maybe that means we have less competition than during the spring (unless fewer people apply for spring...)

...okay, I better stop before I go a little crazy. ;) At any rate, I really like the sound of Pacesetters, that would be my pick.

It's 130 spots based on 80 regular and 50 pacesetter. The school decides which program you will be enrolled in based on people I asked that were conditionally accepted. Also race/gender/affirmative action procedures has no bearing on whether you will get accepted or not.

Right, I got that it's 130, 80/50...what I'm asking is if it's always been 130 admits for the Fall, even before they started Pacesetters. Because if they used to just take 80 and now they're taking another 50, that changes our odds for Spring. :) Not that it makes a difference, I'm just overanalyzing! Haha

Totally agree, Chaos0058, on to more constructive things!

Based on reading past threads, I've gathered that it used to be 80 spring/80 fall, but upon adding the pacesetters program (which only runs in the fall) they expanded the number of fall slots to 130. So there are still only 80 spots available in the spring, but 130 in the fall. Let's just continue to cross our fingers and hope that we all get in! :-)

For some reason I feel like I might be wrong about the number admitted for the spring...I think it might be 60? I don't know where I'm getting that number from...maybe from something I've read from a past thread? I don't know. Anyone want to go through 300+ pgs from the past threads to verify this?! haha

Um, I totally just finished going through the Spring 2011 thread. ;) Lol...anyway, according to those folks it's 80.

chaos, don't forget that anyone not accepted into the Summer Accelerated program is automatically considered for both Fall programs.... So I think Fall competition is as great as, if not greater than, Spring competition.

AAAH, I forgot about that!! Thanks for the reality check :D Reeeeallly hoping we hear something soon.

I thought I remember reading that Fall decisions wouldn't be sent out until April. If that's true, this is going to be the longest month of my life! Especially if they aren't doing interviews, so there's absolutely nothing else we can do to help ourselves...

you're letting the waiting game beat you :( i just hope it doesn't end up as "game over"

lol - I didn't mean that last statement to sound so bleak! :D

I'm disappointed that there won't be any interviews, because like some other people have said, I'm not 100% confident in my GPA and HESI scores. I have a few relatives in medical professions, and they say I should be fine... but after reading the threads from the prior semesters, it seems like just as many people with similar GPA's & HESI scores got admitted as those who didn't. So I definitely don't feel like it's a "sure thing" and I think I would have done well in an interview.

But I think it's pointless to waste time or energy worrying about things I can't control. Fortunately I'm looking forward to some fun stuff I planned for this month, and I might ask for some extra shifts at work so I have less time to spend refreshing my UTLink and email.
