I am a ut houston hopeful applying for the pacesetter and traditional programs for fall 2011! I will be done with my pre-req's: engl 1302 and hist 1302 this spring 2011. I plan on taking the hesi the beginning of December since the deadline for ut-houston has been changed to Jan 15. 2011. I wish everybody good luck as were getting down to the wire!!1 Anyone else out there?
Mac, I don't think anyone really knows for sure. There are enough conflicting reports that anything is possible. Perhaps this is the first year that UT isn't doing automatic interviews for everyone who meets the minimums; I imagine there are more and more qualified applicants every year, and eventually they would just run out of time to interview everyone.
If they do stop automatic interviews, my best guess is that they'll offer admission without interviews to the people with some combination of "best" GPA and HESI scores. For the "next best" group, they'll use interviews to decide between candidates.
When you think about it, that's not an unreasonable strategy. Nursing schools are judged based on their graduation and NCLEX passing rates, so of course they would want to select for students who excel at classwork and test-taking. There are, of course, amazing nurses who don't excel at those 2 things, so UT will probably miss out on some great people with this new system.
And as best I can tell, TWU doesn't interview; they consider only GPA and TEAS scores. So I don't think UT is doing anything too "out of the box" by changing their admission process; it just feel extra stressful to us because it's unexpected.
But like others have said, it would be nice to have a definitive answer one way or the other, if only so I could stop stalking my mailman.
I don't know if anyone is still follwing this thread but I had an interview for the Accelerated BSN program for UT-Houston and the admissions committee said that we'll find out the beginning of april about decisions. I also applied to the regular program and was told that decisions for that would be later than the accelerated program which starts in May. Good Luck!
crr1987, did UT mention anything about interviews for the regular program? We're getting conflicting information and we're not sure if they're even doing interviews for the regular program anymore.
-asian-, the UT website says "Our program requires full-time study and many students find it difficult to work while in the program." http://son.uth.tmc.edu/prospstudent/bsn/tradbsn/default.htm
Most likely, I will not work if I get accepted; I think the study requirements will be too demanding.
rocket surgery- When I went for my interview and was told when decisions would be made I asked if I would have to come for another interview if I were not accepted to the accelerated program in order to be considered for the Traditional track program. I was told that another interview would not be scheduled. I do not know if they will use the information from my first interview for consideration of the Traditional track due to the fact that there are more people applying to the Traditional track OR if they even schedule interviews for the traditional track. I wasn't told either way. They just said i'd only have the one interview.
Hey guys, I just found this post in the Summer 2011 Accelerated thread:
Hey Guys,Just had my interview this past thursday. It went absolutely amazing. I know regardless of what I say everybody will be a little nervous come interview day. But it wasn't bad at all. The person I interviewed with was great and made me feel completely at ease. Regardless of what the outcome is I know I did the best I could and have absolutely no regrets. I did find out how many applicants there were to start with and how many spots were available. The applicant pool was 794 people. They took 200 people from that pool and there is 60 spots available for the summer semester. You are automatically looked at for the fall semester as well and you do not have to interview again since the fall semester does not require interviews. For that semester you are chosen based on Hesi scores. As far as Hesi scores they said a good average score to have would be in the 80's or 90's and that the anatomy avg score was about 85.Okay I've written a small novel so I'll leave it at that. Good luck to everybody who has interviews coming up this week!!!

so you mean to say that some applicants that get accepted will bypass the interview process because of the extent of their merit? and likewise, applicants that are of similar merit will be given interviews to distinguish who makes it and who dont?
