Hey everybody! I just wanted to start a thread where all of us who are beginning the stressful process of worrying over Lonestar admissions can give each other some support! I'm planning on applying to LSC-Montgomery - retaking Psych 2301 in a Second 8 Weeks class to get an*A,* and getting ready to take the HESI in November when Moco's testing opens. I'm freaking out over how much is on the line...must make an *A!* Must blow HESI out of the water!!!!!
Anyway, just wanted to say good luck to everyone as their finishing up their prereqs and preparing for the HESI and ask...
LoneStar hopefuls...WHERE YOU AT?!! :heartbeat
No kidding! I've seen those too, and it baffles me. Although if someone were to just go on the LSC website, it looks like it's that way too. Even though I haven't taken any nursing classes, it seems like you've got to have a pretty good grasp on A&P beforehand. I can't imagine having to learn A&P right along with the nursing process. And while I'm enjoying micro, there's certainly no shortage of information to learn.
So, I went by the nursing office today and asked about pharmacology. Apparently the advisers are giving out the wrong information. Imagine that. There are no limitations on CyFair students taking pharm at other campuses, even after acceptance. In fact, she said that in the future the course number will be changing. Hopefully they change it to 1301 and eliminate the confusion.
The app period is closed...the wait is officially on! Let's go April!!!
Mocoguy: you have no idea what your talking about, I too know someone who got a 100 on the HESI. You also are being rude and disrespectful to other people. We are all stressed and trying as hard as we can to get in and you have no right to fault anyone for expressing their concerns and feeling. You should take you own advice and be encouraging and supportive instead of being an ass.
Songbird- I completely understand your feelings. I waited to apply until I had the four points for co-reqs simply for the fact that it seems nearly impossible to be accepted with anything less. It sucks, and I'm having to take another class just so that I have enough hours for financial aid. It'll go towards my BSN in the future but it's still frustrating. Then again, not a single one of us has any idea what the score cut-offs will be this time around, so you never know. :)tsheen- Glad your scores finally updated. Sure would be nice if they would let us know how long they would take...might save them the trouble of answering a bunch of questions.
Heathers- LOL...I probably would've done the happy dance in the assessment center if I'd gotten a 100 on either part, whether they liked it or not. Might have even called the news channels, too!
Erica- Glad you're back! And kudos to you for doing it with a baby! Mine will be six and four in the fall and I'm already anticipating how I'm going to do it with them. I have a couple of questions for you if you don't mind answering. Why North Harris this time around? Was there something about Cy Fair that you didn't care for? I'm a little nervous about all the talk about how tough the Cy Fair instructors are, but I keep telling myself that people do make it through, so I can too.
So here's a new one about Cy Fair- I was planning on taking pharmacology at one of the other schools over the summer, just to get it out of the way, since they are now accepting it without a test. However, a friend of mine (who is applying this summer) was just told by an advisor that once you are accepted to Cy Fair, if you haven't already taken it, you must take it there while in the program. This doesn't really make sense to me, but at the same time I don't want to waste my time taking it this summer if I'll have to take it again. Has anyone else heard this, too? I'm thinking that I see another trip by the nursing office in my future.
I chose North Harris just for something different I suppose, they accept more students, their program is more established, and I have heard their graduate rate and nclex passing rate is super high, alot higher than Cy-Fairs. Cy-Fair was tough, but I wouldn't say unfairly. I just chose North Harris for something different I suppose lol.. And if you have already taken Pharm, you don't have to retake it, so that's a lie. it may have used to be like that, but i know for sure not anymore.
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but is anyone else concerned about getting a job when you graduate? I've been reading these boards and talking to recent grads from Lone Star and it's very concerning. A lot of recent grads are not getting hired. I'm hoping things will turn around in two years when we graduate, but I am still worried.
I'm worried, but my job prospects are better as a nurse (at least they're still hiring a few!) than in my job (where I'm hoping the layoff isn't too much before school starts).
2 years is a long time in an economic sense, and even if I have to work somewhere I don't like (prison, nursing home, etc), there are still some jobs here for new grads.
Erica- I've heard great things about North Harris. Actually, I've heard great things about all of them, even Cyfair. I'm glad to hear that they aren't unfair. That's really what matters to me the most. As long as expectations are clear and fairly judged, I'm good.
Heathers- Yep, I'm worried. Like wannabetxnurse said though, two years is a long time. I'm hoping that with the news beginning to report the truth and not that nursing is recession-proof, we'll stop seeing so many going into it for that reason. I'm also hoping that with two (possibly three!) new hospitals opening out here there will be some more openings.
A new tidbit for all of us- when a girl in my micro class turned in her application last week at Cyfair, she was told that there were not as many applicants as usual this semester. Granted it's hearsay, but it's good news as far as competition goes.:)

I should have said that I'm planning to take 1301 this summer...at another campus. CyFair only offers 1201, and only to current nursing students. I went back and read what I wrote...it was much more clear in my mind.
Believe me, I'm worried about taking it over the summer in such a short time, but I'm also worried about taking it with nursing classes. I just can't figure out which one worries me more.
As far as what's to come...from what I can tell there's no preparation for it!!
