Fall 2010 Lonestar ADN Hopefuls

Published

Hey everybody! I just wanted to start a thread where all of us who are beginning the stressful process of worrying over Lonestar admissions can give each other some support!:yeah: I'm planning on applying to LSC-Montgomery - retaking Psych 2301 in a Second 8 Weeks class to get an*A,* and getting ready to take the HESI in November when Moco's testing opens. I'm freaking out over how much is on the line...must make an *A!* Must blow HESI out of the water!!!!!

Anyway, just wanted to say good luck to everyone as their finishing up their prereqs and preparing for the HESI and ask...

LoneStar hopefuls...WHERE YOU AT?!! :heartbeat

I was reading some threads from last year (yes, I'm certifiable) and it looks like people started getting their letters on April 10.

I was reading some threads from last year (yes, I'm certifiable) and it looks like people started getting their letters on April 10.

Then I'm certifiable, too. I keep reading the old threads for info about dates, orientation, supplies, scrubs, etc. Trying to tide myself over, I suppose. I noticed that date too...it's my birthday, so I'm hoping for a good birthday surprise.:D

=^) and i though i was the only one that did that (read old threads). Yeah, i can't wait for the darn letter.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one! My husband gives me a hard time about always being on here, but I figure it's better than jabbering to him about it all the time.

So have any of you decided what stuff (stethoscope, NCLEX books, etc.) you're going to buy yet? There's so many recommendations on here to wade through! Obviously I'm not buying anything just yet, but looking is giving me something to do during this seemingly loooong wait.

That make me feel better that I'm not the only one. Don't you just wish we could start already? I feel like I'll be burned out by the time August rolls around because it's all I can think about right now.

Lilag-That would be a great birthday present!

It seems like everyone is recommending a littman stethoscope and it's not too expensive, so I'll probably go with that. I remember having trouble hearing with the one in A&PII so I might need something extra sensitive. Or, it could have been those cheap ones they used. I think half of them were broken.

I read the scrubs are teal pants and white tops. That's not the most fabulous combination, but I guess we're not there to make a fashion statement. I'm really petite so I'll probably go to scrubs and more off 45 in The Woodlands to try them on instead of buying them online, at least at first. I hope I don't look like I'm wearing a potato sack.

I haven't looked at NCLEX books, but there are several apps if you have an iphone or itouch that you can download. I'll probably do that in addition to books.

I have been looking in the stethoscope forum and reading about them. Although it seems like the litman (sp) is the sure safe deal on a good quality stethoscope, I will get what my cousin recommends since he has already graduated with his bachelors in RN. As for the books, i will probably just borrow whatever he has that i can use.

Reading all the other posts so far I think I might get in.. I applied with a 11.826... I am so excited to get started I hope everything continues to go as well. It was a rough start getting involved with all HCC's hoops, overall I think Lonestar will be a better fit. I am hoping for North Harris as I had Kendall for pharm and would love to have her for OB. I have been working as an ER tech since I took CNA , Phlebotomy and EKG courses and I have loved everything I have learned so far. From what I have experienced up until now I want to be either an ER or Psych Nurse. What do you guys think, 11.826 will make the cut ? Now I'm nervous about finding the money for the program as I will have to leave IT level money again. I feel like nursing is the field for me though as I have never been as exhausted/happy as when working in ER.:redbeathe

imo anything over 11.65 and your in.

I hope so, because that's my score, too! North Harris's cutoff is usually 11.1, so you should have no problem.

YES!!! I've followed the past threads since I decided to go back to school, and I've always thought about how I couldn't wait for it to be my turn. Now that I'm here, I still feel like I'm so close but still so far away. Even once letters are out, there's the wait for orientation, and then again for school to start...makes me almost wish that I had applied for spring entry.

I've seen some people say to not spend the money for a Littmann, but I, too, keep thinking about the ones we used in A&P II...I couldn't hear anything but a bunch of noise from the tubes rubbing together and they hurt my ears. Sad thing, our BP cuffs were even worse than the stethoscopes. I'm thinking that I'd like to go ahead and get a Littmann, but I don't know if I want to get the Lightweight II SE or the Classic II SE. Either way, I'm having it engraved and I'll probably get a funky color so that it doesn't 'grow legs'. Thangbom, what does your cousin recommend?

Cyfair's scrubs have been an orange top with navy trim and navy bottoms, but I read somewhere that they are changing, so we'll see. They don't start clinicals until second semester, so I won't need those until then anyway. At first I thought orange would be hideous, but I saw a picture of them, and they're really not bad at all.

Thangbom- You're so lucky to be able to get some of your books from your cousin!!! I've been pricing everything, and man, does it add up! We're setting aside a good portion of our tax refund and I'm applying for every bit of financial aid that I can to try to help cover some of these costs.

I have a Treo that I've been hanging on to for NS. I know that I can download a bunch of the apps to it, but I've been wondering if I should get an iPod Touch for that instead, since some clinical sites may not want us to have phones. I just got an iPod about a year ago though, and I hate to replace it already, never mind spending that much more.

I think you've got a really good chance, an 11.826 is definitely up there as far as scores go.:yeah: I'm a little worried about the money too. I don't make much at all, but it really does help out. My husband and I both have very odd schedules, they're always different, and I have my concerns about keeping that up with all of the craziness of nursing school. Amazingly, I have qualified for a Pell Grant this upcoming year (not much and it's not guaranteed yet), but I also plan to apply for every scholarship that I can. We were told at the info session last semester that there is always money left over, so it may be worth checking into.

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to send out some encouraging words for you all who are waiting for acceptance letters... the wait is rough but savor in the quiet times now b/c when you get in there is NO quiet time whatsoever. I am currently a level one student at Cy Fair and these first 8 wks have been a total blur. Be forewarned that they do not just hit the ground running, they hit the ground sprinting. If you all have any questions on anything just let me know, I know how many questions I had during this time.

BTW, Cy fair's new uniform color is going to be all black with white shoes and white lab coat.

Good luck and happy waiting :)

cschoppe, I actually do have a question. I currently have no insurance of any kind was i think the program expect us to have some kind in case of an emergency. Do you know of what/how i can attain insurance for cheap?

Thanks
