Why are you REALLY going into nursing? Honest answers please.
The schedule is great for moms (3 day a week work schedule). The pay isn't great (it'll be a paycut for me), but it's good pay if you want to work part-time or prn. I may need to do that in the future. I've wanted to be a nurse since high school many, many years ago. I've never been able to quite put my finger on why. I think it's a variety of reasons-it's an important profession, the medical field interests me, I'm a people person, and I like the idea of being able to help my family/friends.

what is a good age to be done with school?
I'll be 35 when I graduate. I probably should have waited a few years so all of my kids would be in school, but I want to do it now. I was in college when I met my husband. He wanted to move out of state for school and I dropped out and went with him. I wanted to finish school, but I needed to work while he finished. Then, I went back to school for a little bit, but decided to drop out again to have kids. My parents were disappointed both times, but it worked out perfectly in my opinion. NOTHING comes before family. When I graduate two of my kids will be in public school and one in full time preschool. It's the perfect time to go back to work! So many moms that are older than me are just now starting their families. I feel so lucky to be done and start the next phase of my life. It all depends on the person. If I hadn't met my husband I would have graduated at 22, but who knows when I would have gotten married and had kids.

How many of your schools require a pharmacology class?
Maybe it depends on your state? I'm in TX and we have to do everything different, even call our program ADN when everyone else calls it ASN (except CA, I believe).

How many of your schools require a pharmacology class?
From what I heard, there can only be so many hours in the ADN program so they have more and more classes considered a prereq. I read it on this board from a grad from my school. I was wondering why all of these classes were considered prereqs.

How many of your schools require a pharmacology class?
I'm in an ADN program and it's a prerequisite. I'm taking it right now and start the program this fall. Well, we have another nursing class (intro to basic care) that's also a prereq that I have to take this summer. I've heard these are prereqs so they can claim it's still an ADN program.

Fall 2010 Lonestar ADN Hopefuls
I don't believe so. I haven't seen too many Montgomery students on here. Most are going to Cy-Fair and North Harris. One good thing about going to Montgomery is that our orientation is only a few weeks away!

Am I asking for the impossible??
The hill country is nice. It's not near the ocean, but TX beaches are only decent south of Corpus. Do you get used to the heat and humidity? NO! I've lived here most of my life and I'm still not used to it. Austin is very liberal so that wouldn't appeal to you even though it's a very pretty. Most of TX is conservative (rural and suburbs), but the cities really aren't. Even if you move to a conservative area, it may not be what you are looking for culturally. It's...different. Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't. You would really need to visit. Also, new grads are having a hard time finding jobs here. That might be something you may want to take into consideration. It's not impossible, but not easy.

I Need Help With My Pharmacology Exam!
That's how my tests are, too. Just read, make notes, and go over it a few times. It will start to stick. It helps me to organize my notes so I can start to see the differences in what I'm looking at. At first, all the adverse effects and contraindictions all sounded the same. I also try to think about why it would cause that and picture it in my mind. That helps makes sense of it so I'm not just memorizing it. Thank god I only have one test left!

Pre-Nursing Student (TX) needs advice on what track to pursue :)
What about UT Tyler or Houston? They are all different in terms of how hard it is to get in.

Are females attracted to male nurses....or just really laugh at the males doing this?
It depends on the male nurse.

Opinion needed-trads,non-trads and very non-trads
There are two groups of annoying people, imo. The ones who talk bad about the teacher, get annoyed about everything we have to do, and complain when they don't do well on a test (it couldn't possibly be their fault) are typically younger. Then, the ones that talk too much about their personal experiences and ask questions about something we just covered because they weren't listening are typically older. I'm somewhere in the middle (32) and make friends with classmates older and younger. Not all young classmates are immature and not all older classmates are annoying, of course. A lot of the guys are the biggest prima donna, gossipers I've ever met in my life, but not all. I'm friends with the few that are cool, just not all.

Annoying and disruptive classmates (vent)
That sucks! Sorry, but I don't think there's anything you can do except ignore her. I'm amazed she hasn't been talked to yet by the instructor. It sounds like she needs to get a firmer grip on this lady. I'm in my early thirties and consider myself a spring chicken.

Fall 2010 Lonestar ADN Hopefuls
Or does anyone know if the Fast Track hep B is accepted at Lone Star? My doctor said the soonest I could be done was four months. If you get your first this month you could have them done before the start of school. You'll miss the deadline, but it may be okay as long as you have them done by the semester starts (Aug 30). I would make my first appointment ASAP.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Maybe they're just getting them out late? I just got my second hep b shot. I'll get the last one right before the deadline in July. Have you started yours?
