Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
I was diagnosed with CFS a couple years ago. I wasn't happy about it, considering there can't be a cure without a cause! I've always been convinced my symptoms are hormone related, but I had nowhere to turn, so I basically gave up hope. But a few months ago, I saw an amazing endo! He put me on a low dose of Armour Thyroid (enough to bump me from the low-normal region to the higher end) and gave me a saliva test for cortisol and found out my levels are almost flat lined during the day and surge late at night. So I'm on a low dose of cortisol. He also tested me for MTHFR mutations, and I'm homozygous for one that hinders my ability convert folate and folic acid into it's bio-usable form. Hello, Deplin! On top of that, my progesterone levels are too low and testosterone is too high, so bring on the Metformin! Lots of stuff going on, but my life has COMPLETELY turned around since my medications have taken effect! Having my hormones under control is phenomenal, and Deplin has me back to my happy self! I still have bad days, but they're nothing like they used to be and the good far outweighs them! Just keep at it. Find your cause, be proactive, and don't take *there's nothing we can do* for an answer!

Twu weekend nursing program spring 2011
I'm super bummed that they discontinued the Fast Track program...I was really counting on applying to that particular one. I guess now I'll be going to traditional route! :)

Point system Lonestar Cy-Fair
Hey! The way I figure it, your score should work like this: Course Completion: 4 pts GPA (A&P II, English I, Gen Psych): 4 pts HESI: x/25 ------------ 4 + 4 + (x/25) >or= 11.4 Meaning, all you really need is a minimum of an 85% on the reading portion of your HESI and a 70% on the math, and you should definitely be competetive! I know Moco opens up the HESI during the LVN application period, which starts sometime this month, so you could definitely take it earlier there! Good luck! I think there's a score sheet you can print out in the documents section of the nursing page so you can check my math!

Midwestern State University
Hey MSU acceptees! Congrats! Out of curiosity, how many points did you have? I'm trying to figure out if I should move up to MSU and finish my co/prereqs in the Spring to get those extra .5 points (plus the co-req points), or if I should just sit happy at 68. Thanks in advance!

Fall 2010 Lonestar ADN Hopefuls
AZ2b - The first three are the prereqs, and yes, the others earn you extra points, but the program is so competitive, you aren't likely to get in without the extra points. There's just no way to get in with less than 11 pts (unless you get lucky on the waiting list!), so you really need to have every class except one completed by the semester before you apply. I *think* there's either a refresher course or the other option (Intro to A&P??) that counts as the refresher that's mostly online - obviously the labs have to be done on campus, but I'm not sure if they have that option for micro. When I spoke to the nursing advisor, she basically said if you make an A in one of the A&P classes and the other two prereqs, complete all of the courses for full points and do a bang up job on the HESI, you can rest easy knowing you'll probably get in somewhere!

Amanda - Sounds like a plan to me! I know what you mean about just taking it one step at a time...I started taking my nursing prereqs 5 years ago, but I got off track and ended up with my useless degree in Psychology. Now I'm back again trying to finish my prereqs, and I feel like I just want to get going now! Yeah, an 11.4 is a risky score when you can only apply to one college. If you were applying to the other 3 during the fall your odds would probably be pretty good that you'd get into one - and banking on a perfecr HESI score is kind of risky in itself since you can only take it once per application period.

Cassie - Yep, you have to take the Hesi, but it's just the Math and Reading Comp sections. You just have to pass the math with at least a 70, and the Reading section is used in your ranking score.

Hospital-based Nursing Program
Huntsville Memorial Hospital has an LVN program that starts accepting applications in March and starts classes at the end of December. There aren't any prereqs to get in, other than some sort of entrance exame. I know absolutely nothing else about the program, but it may be worth looking into!

Cassie - A&P I, English I, and Intro to Psych are the prereqs. Sociology, Development Psych, Micro, Speech, A&P II, and Kinesiology are the co-requisites who's GPA has to be at least a 2.75 to get it, and Pharmacology is the other coreq, but its not used for admission. So, technically you could be admitted with full points if you finished every GPA-counted prereq except one by Dec 09...the points are so competitive that the coreqs have also become prereqs...just not officially, if that makes sense.

Amanda - Yeah, it's pretty competitive, so losing points for not having all the prereqs completed is really iffy. The cut-off for the larger schools is usually around 11.1 points, so you'd really have to have a 4.0 in the three classes and get a perfect score on the HESI to be competitive, I would think. But there are always people accepted from the waiting list, so you just never know. The deadline is sometime around March 15...I'm not sure, but I think the only evening program is at Kingwood, and their program is only a Spring entry. I wish more colleges would embrace the fact that some of us can't stop working and/or afford daycare to go full time during the day!

Fall 2010 Lonestar ADN Hopefuls
Hey everybody! I just wanted to start a thread where all of us who are beginning the stressful process of worrying over Lonestar admissions can give each other some support! I'm planning on applying to LSC-Montgomery - retaking Psych 2301 in a Second 8 Weeks class to get an*A,* and getting ready to take the HESI in November when Moco's testing opens. I'm freaking out over how much is on the line...must make an *A!* Must blow HESI out of the water!!!!! Anyway, just wanted to say good luck to everyone as their finishing up their prereqs and preparing for the HESI and ask... LoneStar hopefuls...WHERE YOU AT?!! :heartbeat
