Fall 2010 Lonestar ADN Hopefuls

Published

Hey everybody! I just wanted to start a thread where all of us who are beginning the stressful process of worrying over Lonestar admissions can give each other some support!:yeah: I'm planning on applying to LSC-Montgomery - retaking Psych 2301 in a Second 8 Weeks class to get an*A,* and getting ready to take the HESI in November when Moco's testing opens. I'm freaking out over how much is on the line...must make an *A!* Must blow HESI out of the water!!!!!

Anyway, just wanted to say good luck to everyone as their finishing up their prereqs and preparing for the HESI and ask...

LoneStar hopefuls...WHERE YOU AT?!! :heartbeat

Hi guys. I'm new to this site. I've been reading posts for a long while, but finally decided to join. I have applied to the nursing program this semester with Montgomery as my first choice and North Harris as my second. I'm pretty sure I will not be getting in as I still have one more class to take to give me full points needed in that area. I just decided to take a chance in hopes that maybe the cutoff scores would be lower this year. But, it looks like I'm out of luck. Does anyone know what the scoring is looking like at North Harris? I'm holding out all hope that they are low this year.

Additionally, this page should be used for informative purposes to direct and encourage people, not to boast and throw up your high scores and say how nervous you are about getting in when you have all A's. Stop being anal retentive. You can't get any higher than all A's. We're ALL nervous. I've just gotten so sick of all the misinformation out there in the Lone Star system and I finally feel its time to lash out a little. So try and think before you post when other people have lower scores and you discourage/scare other students with some rumored information you overheard in an office from people who may not even have anything to do with the actual entry process...Sorry if I sound nasty but I'm tired myself of waiting, but I'm also tired of reading and hearing untrue statements about 'out of 12 points scores' by people who have in reality nothing to worry about and are just being unreasonable.

Who's boasting? I have yet to see anyone actually boast about their scores. People have posted them, sure, but no one has boasted. You're right, we are ALL nervous...for many possible reasons. Are you saying that those with higher scores deserve less support and encouragement than others? There may be more riding on this than you know, or maybe this is something they've worked towards for years, maybe this is not the first time they've applied, maybe they've taken all of the pre-reqs more than once to get this far. There are so many reasons for one to be nervous at this point.

As far as the rumored information, it is just that--rumored. Most everything on here at this point is speculation...including saying that those with an 11.7 or higher have nothing to worry about. While this is probably true, nobody knows, for a fact, what the score cutoffs are going to be this semester, including the nursing department staff, since the application period hasn't even ended yet. They could be really high, or they could be really low. Not a single one of us knows until we get that letter, and even then there are things that it depends on.

I think most of us realize that we can't be absolutely positive that anything we read on here is absolutely true--people can lie about scores, repeat rumors (remember the old game, Telephone? Or am I the only one old enough?), etc. Shoot, some people may just be getting a kick out of messing with our heads (Disclaimer- Not saying this is the case, just that it's the internet and always a possibility). I think at this point, many of us are just begging for any old scrap of information that we can get. It gives us something to focus our anticipation on and helps pass a little time.

My point to all of this? There is another side to this, so I beg you, please keep in mind that everyone is here for support...regardless of scores. Most all of us have been waiting for a while, and we all have our own reasons for being nervous or anxious...whatever they may be. They are all valid, and everyone is deserving of support and encouragement.

I'm not trying to open a can of worms but I'm in a pharmacology class at montgomery with a girl who did get a 100 on the hesi. I couldn't believe it myself but it seems more likely that she is telling the truth than no one has done it in 11 years. I hope the best for everyone. I am currently double anxious because I am waiting on a letter from UT health center and the lonestar system.........................anyone wanna pray that I get the acceptance letter from UT so that I turn down lonestar and open another spot for you????? lol Good luck everyone, stop being rude to your other possible classmates, we are all in the same boat and want it all just as bad if we have taken the time to even be posting on this forum

tsheen- I don't think you opened a can of worms. It's probably just that everyone's anxious and tensions are running high. I'm not surprised that someone got a 100 on the HESI...it was bound to happen eventually. Did your scores finally update?

ETA- Forgot to say, good luck with UT! I know I'd love to be going straight for a BSN at this point...just not in the cards for me yet.

yea they finally did, it took about a week. Now i'm just waiting like everyone else

tsheen-Post scores or any info you have. Isn't that why we're all here?:p

A perfect score, huh? I would be telling everyone I knew (and didn't). I took the math part first and got 100 and let out a little yelp in the testing center. It's too bad they don't count that!

Hello everyone! I applied to North Harris as my first choice and Cy-Fair as my second, my score is an 11.34 I believe! I was in Cy-Fair's nursing program last Spring, and dropped out in my 2nd semester b/c I got pregnant and my husband was laid off...but, I'm due any day now, and my husband has since found a great job again so I'm ready to go at it one more time lol! Nursing school is tough, it's not easy at all, but if you really study hard and dedicate yourself, it can be done. Just don't work if you don't have to, that's the biggest thing that causes people to not do well. They said letters go out in April and I can not wait! Goodluck to us all!

And for those who are curious, when I got into Cy-Fair it was during the Spring with only 2 schools accepting so I believe it's a little more tough to get in during the spring, my points were the same, and out of 40 people accepted, I was number 41 but I got in as an alternate lol.

Songbird- I completely understand your feelings. I waited to apply until I had the four points for co-reqs simply for the fact that it seems nearly impossible to be accepted with anything less. It sucks, and I'm having to take another class just so that I have enough hours for financial aid. It'll go towards my BSN in the future but it's still frustrating. Then again, not a single one of us has any idea what the score cut-offs will be this time around, so you never know. :)

tsheen- Glad your scores finally updated. Sure would be nice if they would let us know how long they would take...might save them the trouble of answering a bunch of questions.

Heathers- LOL...I probably would've done the happy dance in the assessment center if I'd gotten a 100 on either part, whether they liked it or not. Might have even called the news channels, too!;)

Erica- Glad you're back! And kudos to you for doing it with a baby! Mine will be six and four in the fall and I'm already anticipating how I'm going to do it with them. I have a couple of questions for you if you don't mind answering. Why North Harris this time around? Was there something about Cy Fair that you didn't care for? I'm a little nervous about all the talk about how tough the Cy Fair instructors are, but I keep telling myself that people do make it through, so I can too.

So here's a new one about Cy Fair- I was planning on taking pharmacology at one of the other schools over the summer, just to get it out of the way, since they are now accepting it without a test. However, a friend of mine (who is applying this summer) was just told by an advisor that once you are accepted to Cy Fair, if you haven't already taken it, you must take it there while in the program. This doesn't really make sense to me, but at the same time I don't want to waste my time taking it this summer if I'll have to take it again. Has anyone else heard this, too? I'm thinking that I see another trip by the nursing office in my future.

lilag02-I hope that's not right because I'm taking pharm right now at North Harris and I'm planning on going to Montgomery . Maybe it's something specific to Cy-Fair since they have the block program? A friend of mine took pharm through Montgomery and went to Kingwood, so I don't think that's the case everywhere, if at all. I would imagine it would be on Cy-Fair's website. I know some schools do require you to get permission before you can take pharm. Maybe she has her schools mixed up?

Okay, I just checked the website and while it doesn't say anything specifically about where you take pharm, the course number is 1201 at cy-fair and 1301 at the rest of the schools. But, it does have a star next to it and at the bottom it says you can substitute 1301 for 1201. So, it looks like you can take pharm anywhere, but I would double check with the nursing dept. I've heard advisors give out wrong information quite a bit so I would always ask the nursing dept.

It used to be that in order to sub 1301 for 1201, you had to take a pharm test that was reportedly near impossible. However, they just changed it (this app period, I believe) to where you just have to fill out a course substitution form. Of course, to me that's an opportunity to just get it out of the way, so I was going to take it this summer. But what my friend was told was that they will accept it only if you take it before being accepted into the nursing program; once you're accepted, if you haven't already taken it, you have to take 1201. So in other words, I'd need to be taking it now.

It doesn't sound right to me, and I'm thinking maybe they meant that once you've started the program, if you haven't already taken it, then you have to take 1201. Makes more sense to me anyway. Then again, I don't understand why they are different courses at all. Cy Fair is most definitely it's own beast.

The only pharm class at cy-fair this summer is 1201. I know a lot of people take it during the summer after they get accepted because they are finishing up other classes in the spring. I'm taking it now since I'm done. It's harder than I thought it would be. I heard it was easy, but it's not. It's a lot to remember. I can't imagine shoving that much info into my brain over the summer. Maybe it's to prepare us of what's to come in nursing school .
