She obviously has big psych issues-having read the story I don't believe it was done purely for financial gain in this case(as it has in othersOriginally posted by Love-A-NurseCan you imagine anyone wanting to pretend they have cancer?

I have seen many things similar. We had a nurse who convinces several doctors she was in sickle cell crisis......they never caught on they trusted her to be telling the truth....
We had a patient who injected saliva into her knee, then was hospitalized many times with cellulitis. The Inf Ds doc was eventually called and he identified the bug as being ONLY found in the mouth.
Munchausen's? Financial gain? Attention seeking? All sad and it will make it hard on the next person who really needs help from the innocent people who helped her.
There was a case not too long ago around Edmonton, Alberta where a lady had led her community to believe that her daughter had some sort of Cancer, I think it was leukemia. Anyway, she would shave her daughters head and tell her that she was sick. This little girl trusted her mother and did not know any different. The community did fundraisers and had money pots set up in various businesses. If I recall correctly, they had raised tens of thousands of dollars for this little girls treatments.
This was all done for the $$$$$. Sad, sad, sad. Breaks my heart.
I do hope this lady in the U.S. gets treatment.
when i read the article, i had mixed feelings about it.
i think it should be a law for those [especially children] who go through an emotional turmoil at such a young age, should seek some professional assistance. just imagine how many who are grown now still has a lot of childhood angry in them which sometimes lead to various unacceptable behaviors, assuming this is the case of this young lady.
