Failing Nursing

Nursing Students General Students

Hi and welcome. I'm a student or was a student taking associates degree for nursing and I've been admitted to the nursing program in New York City College of technology in fall of 06. Unfortunately bad luck has struck and didn't do well. I've been kicked out of the program with a D in NU103***(my mistake I said nu101 before) and a B in Medication Calculations. Until now Fall 07 I'm still trying to figure out what to do. Even my parents worries about it but they can't understand the competition that goes along with it. I told them it's competitive and they say "Why can't they let you have a chance in getting in after all you did good and pass all your requisites and only failed once with the nursing...why can't they let you in. That's impossible." They've been always comparing to my friends and family who also is in the program or graduated from the program that lowered my dignity. I've been trying to find other schools that can accept me back in but they said I have a very low chance of getting back in because of that D. My dignity level is low and my mind is blindly looking for a miracle. During that same semester also had anatomy and physiology 2 so basically I was taking 3 classes in which is part-time and I lost my health insurance because of it. Now I can't even volunteer at a health place to gain a bit of experience needed because I can't enter without a check-up which I can't do because I lost my health insurance. I've been told that if you have volunteer somewhere in the health fields, you have a better chance of getting back in with their recommendation. I'm lost in the sea of chaos with my parents complaining/worrying, in searching of a school/a way back into the nursing program, my health insurance and as well as worrying about my own future. What should I do? Can someone please help.

-Thank You for taking your time and reading my post-

Have you thought about getting a CNA certificate and working as a CNA full time to get benefits? You could also apply to LPN programs and get an LPN license. With that license, you might be able to convince an RN program to admit you via the LPN to RN route. Good luck.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Have you tried any of the private schools in NYC. Also post your concerns on the NY threads I am sure you will get some suggestions there. send me a PM I may know a school that you maybe interested in.

I don't think it's a lack of intelligence, so don't let it lower your dignity. Is English your second language? There are classes at community colleges that can help you w/your reading and writing skills. Good luck.

also if the only thing keeping you from getting a reccommendation is a check up im sure if you asked your parents for help in that area they would. nothing would keep me from nursing. im sure they care about you and would help if u asked! good luck. BTW since you have your books from nu101 and know what the ciriculum is maybe you can study now for when u redo the class.

you should appeal to the dean of the school. is this your first failure?

usually, they let you comeback into the program after your first failure then that's it. if i were you, i would try to talk to the dean of city tech.

write a letter of appeal.

good luck,

angel

Hmm too bad you couldn't move to my area of PA because the nursing school I go to allows people to have a second chance if they do bad in a semester. However, you're only allowed one more chance for the entire program.

At my school, you get a second chance. Can you find out if they can take you back? After all, it is your first time failing.

I agree with this post... try going LPN route. Get good grades and reapply to NS after you finish. That really is probably the only option w/ a D in N101.

I'd like to thank you all for helping me. I really apperciate it :)

:icon_hug: Hope things get better!

i am just curious. why is it that a lot of people say go to lpn when one has failed rn school? lpn school is tough as well. it may (not sure since i am an lpn student) not be as hard as the rn program but one can easily fail this if they don't give their 100%. i would suggest to the op to look back and evaluate what went wrong and try to identify what your weaknesses were and improve on that. then try to go back to the rn program. if unsuccessful, yes try to do the lpn program (if available or your situation permits) but don't expect the lpn program to be a breeze.

good luck,

angel ;)
