Failed NCLEX twice and feel sad :(

alzinah alzinah (New) New

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this site. But I just eel sooo sad and would like to share my feelings coz i know that you guys will understand.

I took the NCLEX again yesterday and learned that I did not pass it :( I feel like I have lost confidence in myself. some times i feel i am not understanding the material well. The 1st time I prepared for it myself without any program just did a lot of different book qs, the 2nd time took the ATI program and still didn't do well. I am so confused what to do next. I feel like i should not give up but I am scared to appear for it again and fail it. I am also thinking of doin kaplan test review but don't know if it will help..Can someone suggest to me if kaplan would be a good choice to go with if I go for the NCLEX the 3rd time.

Since I am from out of the country (India) I sometimes think that, the way I have been taught to study if very different from how they teach in US..so I think may be thats why I am unable to pass it. My husband and friends are very supportive and have been encouraging me to go for the third time..I don't know what to do..:mad:

looking forward to hearing from you all

Don't give up. Lot's of people do not pass the first or second time. I took Kaplan review and loved it. The review breaks down what the question is actually asking and teaches you how to answer it. Good luck!

You have a right to feel sad for a few days. Then pick yourself up, brush off, and get ready to go after it again. You will be successful as long as you do not give up.

Thank you kjorris and caliotter3 for you words of encouragement.

@ kjorris : did you do the complete plan or the online? .coz i have been reading on their website and they do not have any sessions close to where I live..so it seems i will have to do the online one..but was not sure if it will work well do you have any info on that?

Don't give up, I know you can do it. After all you made it through nursing school. I would recommended the Kaplan course, I did it and found it to be helpful. My other bit of advice is to be confident in yourself and your abilities. I would also recommend doing as many practice questions as possible, use different ones, use the cd's more than the books itself. Good luck to you and best of all, never stop believing in yourself.

Please do not give up! God is in your favor...just back up study again...and go back it...I know its hard for you to do right now but remember a failure is someone who gives up...and i know that if you got through nursing school you can pass the nclex...it just was not the right time for you to pass...God has great plans for you just keep studying!

Thank you all for your words of encouragement :) they sure do make me feel better..:)

I guess I have had a whole 2 days worth of moping done and now have started building a new plan to make it thru the next time ..I believe I can do this ..although there is that other small negative part of me that says you may not ..and I am fighting that now..

I will believe I can do this and will become a good nurse :).

Failure is a final outcome. You have not failed until you give up. Try again, and again, and again if you have to. Study everything you can and do the Kaplain.

hello everyone... I am new to this site, i really like reading all your posts especially regarding nclex. I will be taking my nclex exam in May and hopefully I will make it this time coz that will be my 2nd.I am using saunders as of the moment and still trying to look for a good reviewer.. any suggestions? I used lippincott and mosby before but it didn't work.:)

Don't worry I have a friend from same place who failed four times and working hard for the fifth time.Make sure that you register for the new kaplan review.:)

I loved Saunders NCLEX review, try that with the study disc.

Hello alzinah

don't loose hope. And one more thing don't blame country India for it. I do understand that way of teaching is different but disease or pharma med is same. never loose hope just keep on going......God will help us. I am too from India. And I believe its luck and God's hand you never know which material or questions come from. I am learning from this site that people are passing this exam . So we will too. God bless u.

I know how you feel. I took NCLEX more than once and finally made it. I took Kaplan on line and it was very helpful. You made it through nursing school, there is no doubt you will be able to get that license. It is ok to be sad. I must admit NCLEX was very nerve-wracking and you will be overjoyed when it is over! Take it again and take care.....:redbeathe

Don't give up!! It's normal to feel this way after a few tries but you do have to give yourself a break and than pick yourself back up. Study for the test like it is brand new to you just like when you take the test again. Good luck to you!!

thank you all.. I decided to give the exam again in may :). I have also signed up for kaplan ..so hopefully will be able to make this time . I have heard such positive review about it.

I already have mosby's, lippinscotts and one more book on NCLEX style qs ..I am thinking on buying some more but didn't know which one to go in for ..some have said saunders is good (so I am considering that) ...how about hurst review?

Saunders is a good one, and try to use the CD's more since they are more like the real thing.

It's so nice to see everyone being so encouraging:) personally i am in the same situation and in my state i have to pass by august or i am required to take a refresher course.. i know it would probably be beneficial but it costs close to 2000 for the class and it will obviousally take up work/study time. i am lost for answers and solutions and can only continue to study questions daily and pray for success. i have also used kaplan and hurst in addition to lipincott/la charity/saunders..etc..i have also tried to find a RN who is a tutor but have not been successful at finding one. thanks everyone for listening and any advice is appreciated. i know its easier said than done.. but we all just need to keep our heads up and remember our goal.. no matter how long it takes !:twocents:

Don't give up. You worked so hard to get to where you are so you have keep going when the going gets tough and strive for what you want. I was in your same position. When I get my results, I try to relieve my stress by working out at the gym and listening to inspirational songs that help me reflect on what's happened, so I can brush it off, and get back up to start studying again. I told myself, I did not work this hard to give up, not now. So I put my all into my studies, day and night, I studied studied studied, did over 2500 questions total within 60 days, went over the kaplan coursebook review of the topics from the front of the book to the back of the book, and poured my heart into it. I just took my exam on 3/31 and waiting to see if I passed, but I got the good "pop up" with PVT so I'm hoping that I passed. This was my third try at it too. What I found was the difference between this take and the last 2 takes at the exam was that I understood almost all of everything that I was given. The last times I took it, I did not know enough content, so it is extremely extremely important that you have your content and pathophys down so that you can answer questions any way they are worded on the exam. Don't forget to pick up a copy of linda lacharity's prioritization book. it really helped me with delegation and prioritization, if you feel you need to work on that area. When things weren't going right for me, I just kept telling myself that everything happens for a reason beyond my understanding and all I can do is work with the situation and do my best to strive for what I want, and I was not going to let anything stand in my way. Don't give up, stay positive, study hard and things will roll into place as it meant to be. :D
