Failed NCLEX 11 times.

Updated:   Published

Hi all.

Just want to share my experince. I graduated in 2011 and have taken NCLEX for 11 times since then and still failed. I've tried Saunders, hogan, and also took Kaplan course but still failed. I feel like a failure. This is all I want to do is to become a nurse that's why I keep trying. I want to retake it again but then this time application process required school transcript and the school want me to take another Kaplan course. I'm devastated. I can't afford the money for another course and the exam. I don't know what to do. I got all the resources from books to cd from previous courses. I'm tired of lying to people that I work in the hospital and feel ashamed of myself of where I am today. Still struggling to pass the NCLEX.

Wrong. People who failed multiple times does not necessarily will have a hardtime performing nursing task. Ive seen many (MANY) nurse who passed thier first time cannot performed thier task well than those who took twice and above. It makes me wonder sometimes how the hick did they even pass nclex when they are having some difficulty comepleting simple task. If given by chance, CNA can do it.

There's much more to nursing than "performing nursing task." People who have failed many times probably aren't getting that.

This post is chilling.

Six months in as a new grad, and there are some tasks that my techs can do so much more efficiently than I -- mostly because they have been practicing much longer. I learn something new from my long-time techs everyday ... someone always has a neat tip for a better pivot, bed roll, toileting, etc.

In fact, it's always a better shift when my favorite techs are on with me.

But you bet your sweet Aunt Fanny that I know a great deal more about disease processes than they do ... and I need that knowledge for critical thinking when it all hits the fan. Quickly. And this is where my RN colleagues come in; I watch and learn, everyday ... sometimes even every minute.

The NCLEX is a *starting point* for nurses, a BASIC test of applying critical thinking to your book knowledge in a *controlled, calm environment.*

On the floor? It's not controlled. It's certainly hardly ever calm.

If someone is having problems passing after 11, 13 times? Maybe it's "God's will" that they NOT become a nurse?

This also scares me for the future of nursing. No one wants to work at the bedside any more. Who is gonna take care of all the Baby Boomers?

I won't even get into how you shouldn't be picky because you haven't even passed your NCLEX yet (after 10+ tries). Because that thread needs to die.

Scares me given I am end of Baby Boomers!

You not alone . I'm in the same boat

Look into content review and you must put in the time to study with no distractions; meaning by telling your family nicely to leave you alone for the next month or so. Dedicate those 3-6 hours a day. Look into a content LIVE review refresher; Klimek, Kaplan, Hurst, ReMar Review. Know your content and knock those daily questions off. Get prepared, and when taking the test, stay positive and be prepared to answer 265 questions.

Do not give up.

Hello sianee,

I just wanted to wish you all the best on your nclex exam!!! and wanted to know what have you done differently far as studying this time around. I am preparing to re test as well and would like some good insight. I have been using Uworld and Saunders. Thanks in advance for your reply

I actually had a professor that had confessed to the entire class that she had failed the NCLEX 10 times but she kept trying. She also works full time in the ER unit in 3 different hospitals so anything is possible. You probably were very nervous. Keep trying because anything is possible!

I also graduated in 2011, failed 4 times with these reviews: Kaplan, hurst, studied many books!! I re-took my exam yesterday but did a live review a few months back with "lifesavers" Prof: Paul

He teaches you what others don't!

I been getting the the good pop up since 3 minutes after my exam! I'm hoping this is a good sign...

I think you should research him, he holds live reviews all over!! Please, he is the absolute best!!

Retook Monday*

Congrats Jason! Would you mind sharing what you did this last time to pass the nclex?

I know this is an old post, but maybe the barrier is that you cannot envision the care that is needed to provide quality care to patients. When I was in nursing school 16 yrs ago, you had to retake the last two semesters of nursing school if you did not pass after 4 attempts. I think anyone struggling to pass should reach out to the school they graduated from for assistance. Maybe they can counsel or even offer a refresher class at a discount price.
