Failed, nclex rn 5 times! Help?!?!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

EVERYONE I need all the advice, suggestion, and help as much as possible! So I am completely bum-out and am starting to feel maybe I'm just not meant for a RN (as I am told by some people). I have just taken the NCLEX-RN and it's been more than 24 hours and am pretty confident that I FAILED it. I am trying to gather all my strength but it is so tough to get all that courage again. Starting to feel really discouraged! Has anyone taken their NCLEX-RN recently that FAILED 5 TIMES LIKE ME? Or, am I the only one?! I will tell you that I have taken the NCSBN 15 week course (didn't exactly finish all the practice questions), but reviewed all the contents in there as well as questions in both the Saunder and Lipprocotts booklet that relate to those contents reviewed both right and wrong rationales and even jotted down notes to review before the exam. With a part-time job, mother, and wife I put about 3 months into this whole reviewing/studying contents etc. to make sure I went in with confident to pass this exam but in the end, I still didn't. I feel like I'm running out of choices here. The exam I took had about 3 SATA, no math, 2-3 really long paragraph (about 3-4 sentences long, which I thought I was in the passing level, perhaps?) and the rest was just about 1-2 sentence long. I didn't even make it pass 75 questions. That's terrible!!!! For those that have passed the nclex rn did you rec'd a lot of questions in paragraph form like 3-4 sentences long? Or perhaps 2-3? I'm sure 1-2 was just below or near the passing level. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE... I need the help all I can get what I can do differently, review differently etc. Anything will be GREATLY appreciated! Sounds really desperate but I am determine to pass this next time and if I don't I have no idea how to move on...

TO ANYONE WHO CAN RESPOND:

Whenever someone fails, do they ever have a result on a subject saying "above passing "? because off all the times I took the nclex I just had "near passing" on each subject, i never had a result saying above passing.

Of course. Why would you think that everyone who fails is below or near passing in everything? Many times people are above passing in one or more domains of knowledge, but you must pass ALL sections you are being tested on in order to pass the exam.

I don't know how many times you have failed this exam, but it should make sense to you that if you have been self-studying for multiple attempts and yet continue to fail, you need to do something radically different. Try a study group. Try a 1:1 tutor. Try a live review /prep course. You are obviously missing something very key if you aren't able to pass ANY of the sections after multiple attempts. Rather than pay for yet another study program that you tackle yourself, try meeting with a live instructor and see if you can figure out the problem. Without knowing WHY you are failing, you will simply never pass.

Very well said ! I didn't pass my RN either, now I'm looking into doing it out of state due to cut off. But reading some of the responses makes me feel like I am not worthy of what I've accomplished and I've been an LPN for 7 years geez I don't think some of these nurses realize that negative feedback only brings us further down into a spiral smh:(

Don't Worry... It's not about the number of takes. I graduated 2007, took the nclex 7 times(was not taking the first 6 times seriously) and passed it on the 8th at 75. The only advice i can give you is attend an in-classroom review course. I didn't believe it at first but review courses makes a LOT of difference. Basically, i just trusted the review course( i did rachell allen review for 10 days) i attended and just used the lecture they had, i didn't use any other sources for content. Then used the La Charity book, finished the whole book 4 times, until i had around 70-75% average. Then I took it. Didn't expect to pass but I did.... Finally... So... DOn't Give Up... If i was able to do it... You can too...

By the way... try searching nursity in youtube... they're short advices helped...

Is your state requiring remediation? If so, trying to slip in by taking the exam in another state won't work. They will want to see proof of your remediation before they issue you a license.

SIX times were just for kicks?!

SIX times were just for kicks?!

I wish I had that much money for 6 times to be just for kicks. And then they failed the 7th time too! I think it is absolutely ridiculous that someone is allowed to take boards 8 times.

I think it's absolutely terrifying.

My state can't make up their mind if they want remediation or repeat the entire course and by all means I'm not trying to slip out of anything. I'm trying to get answers and what's even more frustrating is that "Dr's" are giving me incorrect or contradicting information so tht in itself is clear as day that they do not know their own board rules! Nonetheless If I have to take a remediation I am not opposed to that I just need to find a way to keep going. Ty

Well I'm not up to eight "Yet" lol but since you find humor in it then by all means enjoy. All in all some people are book smart, some will kick "book" nurses butt on the floor and some just don't have time to study or can't make up their mind on what to do except that book work isn't going to save someone's life because no matter what, when the body decides to do what it feels then if you are not trained to take that seriously at the moment and know or have been trained to do it NO BOOK can save a real humans life !!!! Another HUMAN nurse does. So Kuddos to her passing it on the 8th time!! NEVER giving up!! Plus there isn't a price tag on what someone pays into their future!!

Yes sure, just for kicks. ??? You must be a book nurse. Now last I checked Nurses are compassionate but in your case obviously not. So who needs to retake their ethics class??? Better yet how to bring each other up not tear nurses apart :( smh.
