Failed the NCLEX-RN 4 times! =( Help!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hey guys,

So i failed the nclex 4 times. im devastated, embarrassed, and tired to say the least. its disheartening knowing that i gave everything i had and i still come up short. I put off a lot of things in my life just to study for this and i feel like i wasted my time, especially my money. its almost a year since i graduated and a lot of my classmates have passed and are doing well. im happy for them. but it sucks that im here still trying pass. after the 4th try, i tried studying again but my mind was just so cluttered and fatigued i just couldn't do it anymore. i know i need to get this but im just so drained. it's great knowing that i have a job when i finally do pass but it sucks having to go to work and tell coworkers and my family that i didn't pass over and over again. sometimes i'd make up a bs story just because im just so embarrassed. it hurts me the most because my family and close friends have done so much for me throughout nursing school with all the support. and i can't come through for them. i've done hurst and i love it. it gives amazing content. im probably going to do it again and then do kaplan. has anyone done the kaplan 2013-2014 strategies book? how did you like it? my friend also gave me her thick kaplan rn course book. anyone have any input on that? im probably going to take it again sometime in February (or whenever im ready). i've done kaplan q trainers 5 and 6 and scored 70's on them. maybe i should just do more questions. iunno. i think my biggest hurdle is fatigue while testing. if anyone has any suggestions on study plans/strategies, tips, study schedule or any words of encouragement i'd like to hear it because i sure as heck need it. im still keeping the dream alive. im not giving up. Thanks guys.

My sources of studying:

Hurst Review

Kaplan strategies book 2013-2014

La Charity priority book

Kaplan rn course book

Saunders q&a review cards

nclex 10000

any input on these reviews would be greatly appreciated =)

I took Kaplan twice and failed. I am now just sticking to Saunders and NCLEX 4000. I dont want to spend anything but will increase my time in studying. Good luck

Re: my previous post. I went through the 2nd edition Lacharity book and any time a person was mentioned with a task I would write down that person's title and put the task under it. That is where the list came from on the prioritization and delegation tip sheet.

thank you guys for all of your tips support, and encouragement =)

80% of my NCLEX study was from the big yellow Saunders book. The rest from a Kaplan review and rationale book. Passed on 1st try.

Hi Pau1234

Don't give up! No matter how many times you have to take this exam, keep trying. I too have failed it two times and am currently planning a retake in the UK. My problem is test anxiety and rushing during the testing process. Hopefully I can calm myself down and complete the task. What I do know is that I will not be satisfied until I have mastered it. Good luck and best wishes for the future.

Someone in my class said to go *really slowly and reading really carefully* on the first 10 questions of the exam. Just go slow. Honestly. Read so carefully, and really think through the answers. I passed on Monday with 75 questions my first attempt, and was getting 50-53% on the first 4 Kaplan Q trainer tests, then 59-68% on the last 3 Qtrainer exams. I was shocked at how that advice really helped me - and feeling really calm, and not rushed. My friend also told me to expect 265 and not to psych out about it. So just continue to study questions, reading them really carefully, and you can do it!

Links are posted to help students pass thee nclex. CDC is a free website and does not require membership since the information is for public. Not sure why admin tries to bust people for helping those who need it. Seriously this is another reason why I don't like all nurses. Not fair to police members who want others to succeed. I'm canceling my allnurses account. Big brother is watching.

Posting links to illegal copyrighted material is unethical & illegal. The links & posts most often removed are "new members" offering to sell or share pirated copies of study guides, books, materials, review programs.

The copyright/ trademark owner worked hard to create and publish their material and thus deserve the international rights protecting their material.

Links to reputable, easily accessible resources such as the cdc, medscape, journal abstracts, professional or support organizations are posted (and remain posted) throughout this forum and threads within.

Directing someone to the CDC standards for hand washing, isolation precautions or vaccine recommendations is not the same as linking to a scanned chapter to a NCLEX review book or textbook. The former is encouraged, the latter is prohibited.

You need to do live review course. Kaplan is very good.

You need to do live review course. Kaplan is very good.

As someone who teaches NCLEX prep classes, I agree wholeheartedly. Obviously the books alone are not helping you. Go to a live review course and use the books to supplement your studying. A live review course will help you learn to break down the questions. The courses don't review content (they don't re-teach nursing school); they teach you how to understand what is being asked. I highly recommend it.
