Failed clinical.

Published

I failed fourth quarter clinicals and must take the class over. I would like to audit third quarter so I don't lose knowledge waiting for fourth quarter to roll around. Has anyone heard of, or done this. I can't get my teachers to respond.

Thank you

i dont know how you would audit a hands on sort of thing like clinical,,,but i understand your logic....also is it possible you didnt get enough out of 3rd semester to have a successful 4th semester? would it make sense to just do it over?

I agree with the pp- clinical is not really something you can audit. But it might be beneficial just to take the 3rd semester clinical over- hey any extra hands-on practice is a good thing!

Good luck!

another thought, do you live in a state that allows, and would your program allow, you to sit for lpn boards?

i dont think this is likely but you could check

Ooops I wasnt clear. I meant I wanted to audit third quarter theory, not third quarter clinicals. I want to stay in school so I don't lose the knowledge I might lose waiting for fourth quarter to roll around.

no i have never heard of someone doing this. they ususally have the slots filled for the past semester and have no room for people to stay back a semester or a audit . once you fail i think you have to reapply to the program and usually meet with a nursing school adminstration and be reinstated if they accept you..... or you would have to reapply to a different program .... if you apply to a new program they would look back on your schooling and decide then if you can go to their program..... once those slots are filled there is no room for anyone else.

i'm sorry you can't do this , but i can understand the school's reason why. please keep us posted on how you are doing , just go over your notes and reading , keep studying . you'll get through this and it wiill work out.

That is how my school does it- the students who are in that semester (so first semester, second semester, etc.) get first dibs at all courses offered for that semester, and then any open spots, if there are any, are given to people who need to re-take the course.

at my school if you fail clinical then you fail the class. therefore you must take it over. Say you fail med surg 3 clinical, my school requires you to sit in and audit med surg 1 and 2 from the previous semester. you do not have to take the tests you just sit in class and listen to the lectures and what not. the is a guy in my class waiting for 3rd semester to come around and he had to audit the 2nd semester classes.... ohh and you have to reapply to the program you are not automatically still in the program you must have an iterview and other things and the DON students must accept your request. if there are no open spots then there is no room for you at my school. but every semester you loose a person or a few people so that is not an issue....

There was a girl in my class who was auditing the classroom portion of our class so I know it can be done. She didn't stick around past the second week though...

Some schools/instructors will allow this. Currenly there is a student who is in our clinical group (she failed it or took a stop out and didn't finish) and she has sat in on one of our theory classes. (at our school if you fail clinical your concurrent theory still counts if you passed it). I would ask find out! Good luck!
