Failed AANP today

Published

So I just failed my AANP cert. exam today. I am wanting to get the CE's done ASAP and reapply as soon as I can. When I looked on the AANP website, it said the CE's have to be done in your area of weakness, did everybody else wait for that letter (says it can take 4-5 weeks) or can I just do any CE's and submit those with my recertification application? Thanks for the advice.

Why don't you just take the ANCC instead?

From reading other post-you do not have to wait for the letter to start. I am sorry.

I figured it may be easier to stick with the same test once you've taken it once with the hope that I have a small advantage because I've already seen it once. At least I have some type of idea of what they are looking for. Some of the questions seemed so random though I'm not quite sure how I can adequately prepare for the next time. Plus the school I went to is awful at following through with sending transcripts, I might be waiting longer if I jump ship and apply for the ANCC.

Any wise advice from those fortunate ones who have passed their certification exam?? One day I'm sure I will get there!!!

I wish you the best. I did not pass ANCC for Adult NP in February.

Took Fitzgerald online review class this Spring. Tested yesterday and passed. Good luck!

So sorry to hear this. I can honestly say I know exactly how you feel. I had to take it twice. Stick with the AANP. You may not get the same test as you did before, they have several versions. There is ONE test that they throw in there that I don't think anyone could pass, that was probably the one you got. You will probably breeze through it next time!

Take the CE's NOW. Do NOT wait for your letter. It doesn't give you any idea where your weak areas are, believe me. I tested the second time in 5-6 weeks after I failed the first one.

Hang in there, keep studying and pray every night you get a different test this time.

I too failed aanp about 2 weeks ago. I am sick over it and trying to move forward. I have already completed more than the required ceu's and am waiting to receive my results. How long before you received results and how soon can you retake?

Trust me, I know exactly how you feel, extremely embarrassed, mad at myself and disbelief.....

Verysadmsn,

I know how you feel. I failed the first time, too. I took it on a Thursday. Sulked on Friday. Started doing the 15 CEUs required Sat and Sun from the AANP website. They are all free if you are a member. I know it said that you must do CEUs based on weak areas. But the letter that you will get will only say from weakest to strongest on either diagnosis, planning, treatment, etc. So do any topic. Don't wait for the letter, reapply right away using the application for retake on the AANP website and fax it or mail it overnight. Ask AANP to email you any correspondence in addition to the hard copy. The mail adds 2 weeks to each step. You can retake after 5-6 weeks. I was less tensed the second time and I took my time to REALLY read the questions and I keep telling myself to breathe and I did much better and passed.

I also did a lot of praying. Good luck!

i took it on 9/17/10. lets just say, there is a YOU HAVE PASSED waiting for me on the next one. i felt so inadequate. i used fitzgerald and another review book. i actually used the latest edition of Fitzgerald and i thought i had this test licked!! i got to it and it ate me ALIVE!!! i even did ANCC review questions from their site. i still did NOT pass. Dixie cup if you read my post, let me know your step by step plan for success. i wll admit though, i wasnt sad, i knew well into that i was not doing well. maybe it was just not my day. i was VERY NERVOUS too!! i am welcoming ALL feedback and plans of action for success next time around. i dont want to wait for months at a time. 6-8 weeks at the most, b/c i dont want to loose what information i do have. talk to me colleagues!! :-)

hi dixiecup! before i even took my test last week, i read ur message. i told myself if i didnt pass i wanted to get in contact with you to see what plan u used for success. so, i took it and now i am approaching you for advice. i studied margaret fitzgerald (her newest review book and her review cds), still YOU HAVE NOT PASSED showed on the screen. what was your 'get back plan" how did you succeed the next time around. for some reason i feel like they just threw some stuff at me out of no where. i need some advice. please help me. thank you. btw, do you have any review matereial that you are willing to let me buy or borrow? thank you.

Mickey4,

Thanks for the reply. I am still waiting my letter. I will definitely overnight my retake info. Did you have to send in copies of ceu's completed (the actual certificates)? What other info did you receive via email in addition to the hard copy? I took the Fitzgerald live review, listened to the cd's answered 1,000's of questions from another cd and another book. I think I was just too nervous and was not able to focus. I have had test anxiety before but never like that. I appreciate your advice.

Thanks

I didn't pass either and I posted a new thread before I saw this one. I wish I had a study group... It was alot of in-depth questions. So I guess you have to master and not just know it. I am gonna get ready for round 2. I don't wanna wait. Are you guys working or not during this time? I think that was one of problems...
