I was just wondering what eye machine you use for your kindergartners? I think i have the one Florence nightingale used herself its a Titmus model ov-7m the manual is from 1960's. I'm not even sure if this is appropriate to use now. This is my 2nd year as a school nurse and I really had no training on vision and hearing.

i get too frustrated using the titmus machine and so do the kids. I just use the good old reliable Snellen chart. It;s quicker anyhow!

I have the Titmus i200.
You've had no training? In Illinois you have to be certified to do vision/hearing screenings. Does this vary by state?

I use Snellen or symbols. I'll usually just hold the chart in front of them and ask them to identify the letters. If they can't, I grab the symbols chart and have them identify symbols. Then I have them stand the required distance and read the chart.

I used a machine last year for my older kids and it was such a slow process as the machine is old and very temperamental! Not cool when I have limited time to get through many kids. This year I'm going with the Snellen chart.

I'm laughing because I looked up images of the machine models mentioned and they all positively new age compared to the dinosaur I have in my office. I almost never use it for the older kids but I do use it for the younger grades PK-3. I use Snellan for 4-6 grades. I'm at a small school so it's possible and the extra data is useful and I find I get more accurate results.
Yes this varies by state. We don't need certification/training for hearing /vision in my state either.
im not sure but im going to look into this
Dont you have to check for lazy eye, muscle balance test ?
