Excelsior Program Lpn To Rn

Published

Anyone living in the Atlanta area working on their RN degree through Excelsior College or know of a study group in the area?

New to the ATL

Hi, I am also starting the EC rn program. I just got some info on the Kayliam Career Center. I don't know if I'm going there but I am trying to study on my on. Anyone wants to start a study in the metro Altanta area let me know. I was wondering has anyone had a trouble getting there License Endorsed in GA? From what I understand with EC RN degree the GA BON will not accept it unless you get it endorsed from another state. Anyone know more about this? Also is getting a job or externship with a RN from EC difficult?

Sunshine,

Do a search on this site for that career center, except that I think it's spelled Kaylim. It's been discussed here before. I'm an advocate of direct enrollment in EC and not paying any extra fees for help from publishing companies or study centers. Best of luck to you.

Hi everyone

Just recently made my home in ATL. I am an LPN/LVN traveler presently working in NV.

I have been working my way through Excelsior College ASN program for about a year. I have Nursing Concepts 6 and CPNE to complete before graduation

I would like to offer encouragement to all of you going this route. It isn't easy but it can be done.

As an LPN you have a wealth of knowledge & experience-this program builds on that-you use work as "clinical" time to focus on areas where you may be weak & to ask questions of your colleagues

I have used a variety of study materials to prepare for my exams-Content Guide breakdown(with textbooks),Cliffs Notes,EBay materials(search Excelsior College),NCLEX books,(A&P,Micro...)for Dummies books,Excelsior practice exams,etc

I have been passing my exams & learning so much along the way

I am so grateful for this option for nontraditional learners, allowing us to maintain family & work responsibilities while advancing professionally

A couple of tips

1)Enroll early in your process-the financial investment is motivation to keep going. You are also then able to take exams in the order that suits you

2)Register for an exam even before you are ready to test, set a date(about 4-8 weeks ahead) & stick to it-prepare for your exam(studying 1-2hrs/day) like you would in a classroom setting with a syllabus & test dates,etc-this gives you a time frame/schedule & helps with procrastination

I will be back in GA late Sept, early Oct-I am willing to help others with their studies & share any information I have related to this program

Best of luck to you all-know that you are not alone on this journey

Hi LPNLELE. I am considering going to excelsior. I have already applied and received my unofficial review back. My only hold up is ,I so afraid that I will invest all this money and time into excelsior, and take my nclex exam in another state( because Georgia doesn't recognize the school) pass, then have a problem getting endorsement through Georgia, the state in which I live. Are you license here in Georgia? Did the board give you a problem when it came to getting license here? Please let me know. THANKS

I completed Excelsior's program less then a year ago--conferral date was september 15, Georgia had no problem what so ever with endorsing my license. Always ask the board though to be sure, I would email so you have it in black and white---just in case there is a change later, you have proof.

Half.com seems to be a popular textbook site among Allnurses members.

Quickie classess to just past a test don't cut the mustard when dealing with human lives. That's why many boards of nursing are requiring class AND actual clinical practice at same time. You need to be prepared for the day you assume care as RN.

We want and need professionals to last more than 6 months -2 years in this career....very concerned by the numbers of persons who post here who are leaving after short time. I've highly encouraged my staff and colleagues over the years to continue their eduction and advance to the next rung on the career lader, but do so responsibly.

I read your post and am having a hard time understanding how "Quickie classes just to pass a test" corelates with wanting and needing professionals who "last more than 6 months to 2 years in this career".

How is one connected to the other?

I too, am disturbed at the number of people who don't make it past two years, but I fail to see how it has anything to do with not having theory concurrent with clinical in nursing school.

I believe that poor working conditions in many staff nurse positions play a much, much bigger role in people not lasting long in the field, rather than one's choice of nursing program.

The only thing is this: As a LPN I have worked in so many areas of nursing and have done everything my license allows me to do in every state I've lived in. I have the experience and I know all there is to know about nursing. I do as much as if not more than most of the RN's i have worked with. I'm CLEP'ing the heck out of these classes. And it doesn't make me any less able to succeed as a RN than if I had sat in class for it.

I started The Rue Program, not much help here, is there anyone out there to help me get started again, I was motivated at first then I got lost in their study guides, Thanks for letting me vent.

NRSKarenRN....I agree to a certain extent...the transistion from LPN to RN is not one to take lightly. I endorse Excelsior College, because that's how I got my LPN 31yrs ago,and it's gotten better. Frist,an LPN with experience will benefit from it. I see students today taking statistics for nursing!!! And I see them waiting 3-4yrs for the 2yr programs. This is a very competitive career today. But,what we really need is LPN's who have the working experience, have been on floor and in the mix doing it all already.Even with my 31yrs,I am still going to need RN experience. I am still considered a new grad. But ,the transition for me is easy.Because I have been exposed to what I will be doing first hand. I am getting the clinical experience working beside RN's now,and learning at the same time. I am excited about learning this way,I take only the courses I need. And I am challenged by what I've already learned through experience. Excelsior is a good program for LPN's with experience already, who are actively in the workforce now. Who don't have time to waste on trivial courses that you don't use or need!!! College is good!! But,experience is better!!!
