Anyone living in the Atlanta area working on their RN degree through Excelsior College or know of a study group in the area?

Hey sassy. Iam pursuing my RN through Excelsior. I don't live in Atlanta area, I live in a small town called Ivey, closer to Macon,GA. I don't know of any study groups but I just wanted to let you know you aren't alone in GA!:p Good Luck with your studies.

Thanks Lim,

I have completed most of my Pre-req at a nearby college and really only have about 7 to 8 nursing courses left, I have study guides and only took one exam so far which was a couple of years ago now I decided to finish.

How far are you in your studies?

Specializes in Hospice, Med/Surg, ICU, ER.

Hi ya'll! :D

I'm planning to take Excelsior's LPN-to-RN bridge just as soon as I pass the NCLEX-PN.

How is their program? Does it seem to be effective? How quickly are you able to get through the coursework?

The best place to find a study group for this is at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rnstudygroup

It's an online study group and there are a number of people who live in Georgia. I just completed the program a few months ago and found that group very helpful. In addition to people they have helpful notes in the files section and they have subgroups for each of the tests.

Excelsior is a doable program for an experienced LPN, but it is much easier if you have support and the online study group is great for that.

Hope this helps, Tina

Hey sassy , sorry I haven't responded before now. Work has been crazy lately:eek: . Like you I have done a good amount of my prereq's through a local college. I have only taken a CLEP exam for one test. I had put this on the back burner for awhile and now am trying to start again. I am PM'ing you. Let me know how everything goes.

IVEY???? OMG, my family used to have a place at Holiday Hills...is it still there? I have lots of good memories from spending the summer there, at the pools. OF course you are 11 years younger than me so I'm sure we wouldnt know any of the same people.

Anyway, good luck with your studies...keep up the good work.

Hi- I am going to Kaylim Career Center. The are working in conjunction with Excelsior college. I actually enrolled with Excelsior first but couldn't do it on my own. Kaylim gives you class room time so that you can ask questions instead of having to do it all on your own. I love it becuase I only have to go once a week. You'll finish each nursing class in 6 weeks. Without it I know that my books would still be sitting on a shelf unread. Besides, when you enroll into excelsior they give you a bazillion books and tell you what percentages are going to be on the test and you're left to read all the books and hope you're retaining the right info. Does anyone actually have time to read an entire text book? Not me. Hope this helped.

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

Sorry, the posts about this career center have really rankled me. THOUSANDS of RN's across the country have read entire texbooks and written hundreds of multi page care plans to understanding the science art and patient care techniques RN's utilize every day...many of us career veteran's 25-50 years.

Quickie classess to just past a test don't cut the mustard when dealing with human lives. That's why many boards of nursing are requiring class AND actual clinical practice at same time. You need to be prepared for the day you assume care as RN.

We want and need professionals to last more than 6 months -2 years in this career....very concerned by the numbers of persons who post here who are leaving after short time. I've highly encouraged my staff and colleagues over the years to continue their eduction and advance to the next rung on the career lader, but do so responsibly.

Shoratage will hit us severely in 2015 when many retire.... I'll be following thereafter. Who will be there to care for us as we entire older adulthood and most likely need hospitalization? That's the issue we are trying to minimize at allnurses.

So now, I'm looking for an RN Nursing program. I started an LPN in N.O. and didn't need any prereqs, but now I will persue the RN. Any help would be appreciated.
