Good luck to you...I just recieved my unofficial review this weekend and I am very excited to get started. I do not know all the answers to what you are asking, but i know a couple of people who are working as RN's now after going thru excelsior. You pay for each test as you take them, and you do not have to pay the enrollment fee until after you complete your gen. ed requirements and are ready to take the 3rd nursing exam..This is just what i was told, but our best bet is to contact excelsior ourselves. Again good luck.

You sound like me, except I have a partially paralyzed SON. We're even the same age.

Student loans might also be an option.

The EC ADN program isn't eligible for federal student loans because it is exam-based, not course-based.

Hi! Great choice in Excelsior! I am 45 and just graduated 1 year ago. The fees are paid as you go. There are no hidden fees. It is a little bit more expensive than a brick and morter school, but you know exactly how much it will be right up front. There may be some extra fees as you go along but they are all optional. Such as, practice tests from Excelsior, CPNE workshop (I very much recommend this), and study guides from E-bay.
Good luck!!

good luck! i did not find the tuition to be that expensive. i must have spent less than 6k for the whole thing and my job is reimbursing some of that so even better.

Worked great for me, best way to do if you can. I assume you checked with BON in your state to make sure they will accept it. Good luck!

I've only posted one time,( a question) since becoming a member here. But, thanks to this site I completed the Excelsior Nursing program and passed the boards with the wonderful words of advice I received. I was a LVN (title here on the west coast) for 10 years. Went to a Community College for an AS. Decided to go back to school but could not stop working.
I was already enrolled prior to the cutoff date here in California, so I was able to continue my studies through Excelsior and have them accepted by the BON. It took longer than I expected-because of a leave of absence I took from work (and school) to care for my father at home till he passed away due to cancer, but, remained enrolled. After my greiving period I picked up the books and continued on again. Passed the CPNE on the second try thanks to Ron's CPNE DVD at the end of 2009, and then passed Californias NCLEX in January 2010.
The cost is not that bad especially when compared to the private, fast paced LVN schools out here that charge up to $20,000. If you know your stuff as a LPN, then you can learn whats needed to passed the exams.
I have nothing bad to say in regards to Excelsior. I am proud to be a graduate and have met others here that also finished and have gone on further in their education. That's what I intend to do. GOOD LUCK!! Don't let anything hold you back. Read those "Distance Learning" posts here. SORRY THIS WAS SO LONG.
I am so glad that successfull grads of excelsior have been encouraging us who are just getting started in this program. It seems like i used to see nothing but negative post (especially about the CPNE) that I almost ignored this option as my way of obtaining my RN. Like alot of others I also have to work and trying to work all day and go to school at nite is very tiresome, this is just while getting some pre-reqs completed. So when I would actually start the nursing program at my local college I would only be able to work weekends and go to class all week. Does not sound like my idea of fun..lol
Again Thanks to all you former grads and those who are farther along into the program, just keep the encouragement coming.

I know how "rumors" can be. . . .but suffice it to say, one is holding me back from pursuing my LPN to RN Bridge with Excelsior. I've heard HORROR stories about their clinical segment at the end of the program. . . .I guess you go to Georgia (or somewhere) to perform your clinical skills in a hospital setting and they are very BY THE BOOK and that if you even miss one step they will fail you and you will have to repeat the clinical segment. PLEASE has ANYone completed the LPN to RN Bridge with Excelsior, including the clinical segment that can give me any insight on this?
Thanks In Advance!
