I’m a Texan and an EC graduate from ~13 years ago. I’ve really been out too long to give good advice, but I wanted to wish you guys good luck.

My CPNE application was accepted December 2017. I was offered and accepted the split pilot in December 2018 and had my NSL in Lubbock the end of February 2019. Unfortunately my nerves got the best of me and I failed:(

(FYI the Lubbock NSL in the Winter is freezing! Like miserable freezing! It’s in the basement of one of the covenant buildings and I’m assuming they have no heat for whatever reason. They have a couple space heaters that don’t do much and the CA & CEs literally walked in with gloves, scarfs, blankets, etc. The shivering did not help my already shaking hands or my concentration.)

I was offered my NSL retest in May 2019 in Lubbock and passed quickly with no repeats that time (much warmer too). Both times the CA & CEs were awesome. They really do want you to pass and even gave head nudge hints when possible.

I was given my PCS assignment At Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY in middle of September. I had been offered multiple cancellation dates To get done sooner but didn’t feel ready. Again I cannot say anything but wonderful Things about the CA and CEs. The CEs pick your patients and decide what AOCs you need to do and they make it challenging but not impossible by any means. They too help out with hints when possible. I had an adult as a sub for my pedi patient. Another student did get a 14yo for her pedi and was told they try to give older kids since younger ones condition can change so quickly. The patients know you are a student also and will work with you easily. Know your critical elements and you are good. Regarding documentation, be so so so specific about everything. My CE with my first PCS was beyond forgiving and helpful with my documentation. She could have easily failed me but knows how nervous you are especially on the first one and did all she could to help. And after that one I felt so bad/thankful that I literally wrote every detail of what was said and done and didn’t have anything big but compliments on my documentation the rest of the weekend. Passed with no repeats thanks be to god.

the weekend is is beyond exhausting and stressful. I didn’t take anyone with me for that reason and literally came back to the hotel Saturday and Sunday and took a 3-4 hour nap...it’s that mentally and emotionally exhausting. Reviewed notes the nights before and the mornings of but no marathon study sessions the days leading up to the weekend and that weekend.

I did ATL with Sherrie and Greg to prepare and don’t know how I would have done it without them. I did the online workshop and the videos were more than helpful. I highly recommend using a study aid outside of Excelsior.
