Eww white uniforms??

So, I just found out that we will be wearing white uniforms next semester....white scrubs to be exact. Anyone else have to wear white? Normally I wouldn't mind, but I am the type of person that spills something on themselves everytime they wear white. In fact, last time I wore white pants (5+ years ago) I just happened to sit on a chocolate cupcake. No joke.

I guess I will just have to buy like 5 pairs incase I get some sort of lethal permanent cupcake stain.

I like white! Just not ALL white. Anyone have anything worse to make me feel better?

This is off topic but is a fun general uniform story.

As you see with my name I am a man, one of two in my class; we are sent to the contracted uniform store to order our uniforms and when they come in Randy and I have women's lab coats. I was furious, the instructor said, "They're unisex ..." my reply was to the effect of, "Unisex normally doesnt include padded shoulders and buttons on the left. I will not wear this, it is unprofessional and certainly not an image that needs to be sent by a male nursing student." I continued on explaining that over 20 years in the Navy I learned a thing or two about uniforms and uniformity. She asked, and I put it on, and she tried her best not to laugh, I ended up winning the arguement and we now have a unisex jacket (blazer/sportcoat style) that is available for all students.

Ours are white pants and a unisex vest with a navy polo underneath, from Dove uniforms.

I'm not thrilled by it but my volunteer uniform (white pants and a burgandy smock) is not exactly snazzy either. :chuckle At least my school uniform does come in XS as I am totally lost in the S for my volunteer uniform - which is strange since I wear a medium in regular clothes!

Ah, one of the things I love about scrubs: when I put them on I get to pretend that my size 8-10 tush is "Small". The XS I wear on top is slightly less exciting. :D

A few years ago I was in a nursing job interview and when I was told that whites were required, I said, "No thanks, I'll keep looking, no more whites for me!" I love colorerd scrubs. Five years of whites was enuf white to last me a lifetime. I think colored scrubs are more cheerful for both pts and staff.

Where will you be going to school? In the Dallas area I know that Brookhaven and Collin County wear all white scrubs. I go to Brookhaven and it is not all that bad. I have three sets because this summer we went to the hospital three days in a row and after 12 hour days I knew that I would not want to be doing laundry. I also get stuff all over my clothes but with the white Bleach and stain removers work great. Good Luck with nursing school.:welcome:

The info sheet that I got said that we can pick any white scrubs that we want, so I guess that is a plus! I just find to find a place thas has cheap ones.

I will definitely stock up on bleach!

At the school I'm attending we can wear all royal blue scrubs with white shoes, or royal blue top with a white skirt,stockings and shoes. I definately dont want to be running around in a skirt,so im stickin with the scrubs!

we ware all white from head to toe. its ok. it separates us from everyone else so people know we are students. I think white is nice at least on the top. it separates us from everyone else. I feel like nursing is an honnorable profession and I would like people to know I am a nurse when im in the clinical setting. everyone wears the colord scrubs. sure they are comfy but I am working my butt off in school and would like to feel recognised like doctors do. im sure they dont cry about wearing a lab coat. its like a police bagde. wearing white is an honor even if it dosent flatter my JLo butt!

we had a white uniform and blue scrubs. Our shoes had to be totally white. So happy, now I wear what I want.

It will be cheaper to get the tops and lab coat at the shop that does the embroidery for the uniforms. Because they charge more for tops that are brought in. A friend of mine brought in tops and her bill was only $10 cheaper than mine.I bought my pants on sale at the uniform shop in Plano at 15th and Independence. I have three sets but that is only because we did three hospital days in a row. I am sure that you can get by with less than that. One of my class mates told us that Walmart has some nice white scrub pants that have elastic and drawstring at the wast and cargo pockets. Hope to see you in January.

We wear white polo shirts, white scrub pants (Dickies are the brand of choice in our class) and the heather blue Dove vest. Shoes and socks have to be all white as well.

I wash my whites by themselves and toss a little OxyClean in the load as well. They're still white except for an ink stain on one of the shirts that is completely covered by the vest. :)

Our Peds rotation is next semester and I think we still wear the same uniform... I would enjoy a little color now and then as would some of my classmates who get periods from hell.

. . .to be brutally honest there are certain times of the month the last color I want to wear is white. . .

old trick for you for a menstrual emergency when working in the hospital. . .take a Chux from the central service cart and go into the restroom. Put it inside your panties from front to back leaving it tri-folded. Pull your drawers up. Then, reach inside your panties and fan out the Chux in the back and the front. Chux are very absorbant. The trifold will catch any menstrual flow and direct it into the absorbant material and the plastic backing on the fanned out Chux will prevent any blood from getting on your white pants.

If blood does get on a white uniform, wash it out with hydrogen peroxide ASAP. Go into a restroom to do it if you have to. Follow it with cold water and then finish off with a little soap and water. A spot wash will dry very rapidly, especially if you are walking around a lot.

You can buy smaller sizes of Chux in the pet stores if you want your own for emergencies. They are marketed under the brand name of WeeWee Pads.
