Eww white uniforms??

So, I just found out that we will be wearing white uniforms next semester....white scrubs to be exact. Anyone else have to wear white? Normally I wouldn't mind, but I am the type of person that spills something on themselves everytime they wear white. In fact, last time I wore white pants (5+ years ago) I just happened to sit on a chocolate cupcake. No joke.

I guess I will just have to buy like 5 pairs incase I get some sort of lethal permanent cupcake stain.

I like white! Just not ALL white. Anyone have anything worse to make me feel better?

y'all make me appreciate psu more and more!! we wear white polo shirts with psu nursing embroidered on them and navy blue scrub pants of our choice. white shoes or sneakers. comfy clothes that you don't have to worry about while in clinicals. when i was in lpn school we wore awful baby blue and white dresses with white support hose and white nursing shoes and horrible caps.....when we graduated we had a cap-burning party!! those caps caught on everything and were a pain to keep on our heads. thank goodness our instructors now are more concerned with our clinical skills then the style of our pants ( we still have to look professional, of course), ;)

I've been an RN since 1975 and I find it very disrespectful when newbies to the field say things like "Eww white uniforms??" We had no choice and had to wear white because it was the dress code. We also had to wear caps. We used stain removers to get stains out. We used hydrogen peroxide to remove fresh blood that got on them. I agree that the more colorful scrubs are much nicer and easier to launder and I went out and bought and wore them when we were able to, but please have some respect for those of us who preceded you. If you want to know how to care for white fabric, just ask.

I am unsure why you would take it as disrespect that I am messy and am afraid that I would ruin my uniform. There was no disrespect intended to the "classic" nursing uniform. I come from a long line of nurses in my family and I do not look down upon them for wearing white in the past. I just happen to be much less tidy and a lot more clumsy, so I am sure you can understand my concerns.

I was worried about white because I can never find underwear that don't show through. I'm also glad for the black pants because my caboose it so big (maybe it'll camouflage it).

Oh great! I didn't even think about that.....ha!

Its an interesting phenomena that seems to be part of the internet experience. No matter what you post someone will get offended. You could have posted "I love fluffy kitties" and you would have still gotten flamed for it.

As for the topic at hand, get a tide pen. We wear ill fitting white pants with blue tops. I too tend to get stuff on me and I use a Tide pen. Great little invention. Also, look in the mirror and make sure you can't clearly see all your undergarments. There are schools in our area that are all white and the uniforms are pretty thin. Not a pretty sight!

Don't you find that the Tide pen (or something like it) still leaves an outlined circle? Granted, a soap circle is better than a poo stain! I really like baby wipes for stain removal. Takes out almost anything and dries with no trace.

I've never noticed circles with the Tide pen but maybe it has to do with the material? I never even thought of baby wipes. Very versatile aren't they :lol2:

Our uniforms have to be all white too except they have a wide teal trim on the arms so we can't bleach them! They look horrible! One student said we look like tools! I posted that on another thread because I totally agree. We do look like tools. The best thing to keep the uniform all white was wearing a white t-shirt underneath. Those students that didn't do that now have horrible yellow stains under the arms! Talk about gross! But we are graduating January 11th so the uniforms are 18 months old now. I will be so glad to get rid of mine. I've kept mine clean so will be passing it on to the next class but after that I understand that the school will be requiring a different uniform. Those lucky students! :chuckle

I second the "Eww" on white uniforms. However, I also must wear a long (birth control blue) vest that must be buttoned up. At least I get to wear normal scrubs during my peds rotation. Perhaps the uniform freaks the kids out.

IMHO, there is nothing wrong with saying you hate wearing white scrubs. It is just a personal choice. I did not like them either because I thought they were impractical. Luckily I was able to bleach mine at the end of each shift and they never turned yellow.

My college wants to change the scrub color. We got to research and present our suggestions to the college.

OMG, memories indeed! When I trained, and after I qualified, we still wore white dresses. They were thick enough though, that you could get away with wearing thick black tights , nothing showed through them. They were hard to manoeuvre in though, being dresses. Now, I wear scrubs, blue ones, and feel like I'm at work in my jammies. Old fashioned thinking, I know, but the white dress was a proffesional kinda look. just reminiscing, thats all!:lol2:

I have never heard the term "birth control blue" so please don't be alarmed when I ask what that is.

Would that be birth control blue because it is the color of the blue pill or because it is so ugly that it will prevent anyone from sleeping with you?
