  1. I moving from Birmingham, Al. I will start working on getting my TX nursing license. Thanks.
  2. Hey Everyone! I'm a RN with 3 years of experience mainly pediatrics. My and my fiance will be moving to the Houston area. He will hopefully have a job in the Katy area. If I'm not moving until the end of the summer, when should I apply for a job? Any Advice would be GREAT Thanks
  3. I'll get my flu mist. But the swine flu vaccine...I doubt it.
  4. Are you a nurse? I spent 2 years in nursing school, where clinicals I had 1 maybe 2 patients. In the real world you have about on average 8 patients. BIG difference. Give me my 2 patients only and my views may be different. Clinicals and nursing school did NOT prepare me for the "real" nursing world. I know very FEW people who thought the were adequately prepared. I didn't say I hate what I do, I said on most days I hate my job. I love my patients and the place I work now has some great people. I hate management who has NO medical background trying to tell me how to do things. I dare you to find me a nurse, or anyone else, who loves their job everyday.
  5. The is a reason the work dream was in quotes. There is no perfect jobs, but some jobs are a better fit than others. Not perfect, just better. Else I get to stay where I am and continue to complain until things change
  6. umm....NO! I don't thank so! I did NOT work my butt off to be a waitress. I didn't pay for college, study to pass the courses, and then pass boards for nothing. I didn't know I would not like my job, if I did I would have never became a nurse! I will continue to put up with the crap, until things change or I decide other wise. BTW, I'm working toward an alternative route to get my "dream" job.
  7. I worked for CMS as a prn RN. I didn't have any benefits since I was prn. The pay was pretty good.
  8. I'm one of those people who, most days, I don't enjoy my job. I don't quit because I can't afford to. This is NOT my "dream" job, but I have to survive- I need to earn a living. Nursing school/ Clinicals does NOT prepare you for the real world. Good luck finding a job.
  9. I understand your concerns. I was the synagis coordinator last year for my clinic and as much as I loved those kids, I am SO HAPPY someone else is doing it this year. Our Synagis rep. is awesome as well.
  10. I agree Bevill doesn't seem to be discussed much on this board at all. CONGRATS to the both of you for getting in the program. I have two friends who applied this semester and did not get in. So I guess it is still quite difficult to get into. I know it was a few years ago. Who are the instructors now at the Sumiton campus?
  11. I was there two years ago. It will get better, I promise! It is called change. I think sometimes we try too hard without "thinking" about it. Just take a breath and be happy you have a preceptor who understands. You'll be fine. Good luck!

not to mention most of our 5 year-olds get 5 shots. It usually takes at least 2 nurses for that job.

There are two vaccines that are NOT IM actually they are Sub-Q including MMR and the chickenpox vaccine (varicella). Polio can be given either IM or SC. I love the clinic where I work, so GOOD LUCK!
  15. I'm not sure about the point system they currently use. It is a good, but hard program. They push you very hard, but you will learn a lot. I know it is hard to get into and highly competitive. Unless they changed something, they only accept classes in the fall. Source: I'm a '07 Graduate from BSCC!
