Moving to Houston
Hey Everyone! I'm a RN with 3 years of experience mainly pediatrics. My and my fiance will be moving to the Houston area. He will hopefully have a job in the Katy area. If I'm not moving until the end of the summer, when should I apply for a job? Any Advice would be GREAT Thanks

Three Flu Shots This Year; Will You Get Them?
I'll get my flu mist. But the swine flu vaccine...I doubt it.

Sick of NURSES who say they HATE NURSING!! Another Vent
Are you a nurse? I spent 2 years in nursing school, where clinicals I had 1 maybe 2 patients. In the real world you have about on average 8 patients. BIG difference. Give me my 2 patients only and my views may be different. Clinicals and nursing school did NOT prepare me for the "real" nursing world. I know very FEW people who thought the were adequately prepared. I didn't say I hate what I do, I said on most days I hate my job. I love my patients and the place I work now has some great people. I hate management who has NO medical background trying to tell me how to do things. I dare you to find me a nurse, or anyone else, who loves their job everyday.

Sick of NURSES who say they HATE NURSING!! Another Vent
The is a reason the work dream was in quotes. There is no perfect jobs, but some jobs are a better fit than others. Not perfect, just better. Else I get to stay where I am and continue to complain until things change

Sick of NURSES who say they HATE NURSING!! Another Vent
umm....NO! I don't thank so! I did NOT work my butt off to be a waitress. I didn't pay for college, study to pass the courses, and then pass boards for nothing. I didn't know I would not like my job, if I did I would have never became a nurse! I will continue to put up with the crap, until things change or I decide other wise. BTW, I'm working toward an alternative route to get my "dream" job.

How are Correctional Medical Services Inc work for?
I worked for CMS as a prn RN. I didn't have any benefits since I was prn. The pay was pretty good.

Sick of NURSES who say they HATE NURSING!! Another Vent
I'm one of those people who, most days, I don't enjoy my job. I don't quit because I can't afford to. This is NOT my "dream" job, but I have to survive- I need to earn a living. Nursing school/ Clinicals does NOT prepare you for the real world. Good luck finding a job.

Synagis season.. Ugh!
I understand your concerns. I was the synagis coordinator last year for my clinic and as much as I loved those kids, I am SO HAPPY someone else is doing it this year. Our Synagis rep. is awesome as well.

Bevill State - Sumiton Fall 2009
I agree Bevill doesn't seem to be discussed much on this board at all. CONGRATS to the both of you for getting in the program. I have two friends who applied this semester and did not get in. So I guess it is still quite difficult to get into. I know it was a few years ago. Who are the instructors now at the Sumiton campus?

Fresh Grad, New Job...stressed out
I was there two years ago. It will get better, I promise! It is called change. I think sometimes we try too hard without "thinking" about it. Just take a breath and be happy you have a preceptor who understands. You'll be fine. Good luck!

MMR question
not to mention most of our 5 year-olds get 5 shots. It usually takes at least 2 nurses for that job.
-
MMR question
"All live injected vaccines (MMR, varicella, and yellow fever) are recommended to be given subcutaneously." Source: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/combo-vaccines/mmr/faqs-mmr-hcp.htm
-
MMR question
There are two vaccines that are NOT IM actually they are Sub-Q including MMR and the chickenpox vaccine (varicella). Polio can be given either IM or SC. I love the clinic where I work, so GOOD LUCK!

beville state summiton campus nursing program
I'm not sure about the point system they currently use. It is a good, but hard program. They push you very hard, but you will learn a lot. I know it is hard to get into and highly competitive. Unless they changed something, they only accept classes in the fall. Source: I'm a '07 Graduate from BSCC!

How to apply for a clinic
In the hospital I had 10-14 pts with little to no help. I love the fast pace of the clinic and the hours. I feel like I work in a safer environment. In the clinic, I've had the chance to get to know my patients and their families.
-
Did you ever have such a bad day, that you regretted becoming a nurse?
I have WAY too often. It usually has something to do with a difficult patient or more often a "difficult" co-worker. Most days I love it, but there are still times I wonder.

Working at a Clinic/Private Dr Office
I work in a clinic (pediatric) which is a division of a local hospital. We have 5 full-time doctors and 2 part-time. We have 6 full-time nurses. All the nurses are RNs. right now it is divided 3 ADN and 3 BSN. However I'm pursuing my BSN and two others are getting their MSN. We work 9-5 M-F with half day on saturday. Pay varys between 18.50-20.50 per hour, I do live in the south. No hospital experience required. I worked in a hospital for almost a year and HATED it! I love my job now.

migraine faker at the ED!
i know you did not just accuse me of being in withdrawals. :madface:and your so smart, yes they did put cardiac pacer pads on and got the crash cart. it's called pain! and again, i have been seeing a neuro! he was at the hospital i went to. he is the one who told me to go to the er, if i ever had a migraine lasting over 72 hours! i'm not a drug seeker and it is "nurses" with your beliefs and attitude, who give patient who are legit a hard time.and in turn give the hospital a bad name. oh but don't worry, we reported my "wonderful" nurse and because it was not the first time a complaint was filed she was...relieved from her duties. :d:d by the way, it is more likely you would have a stroke while having a migraine, which was the concern! your also so smart, i told you what they gave me demerol and phenergan. i would have been just as happy with tordal. a nsaid, not narc! it works, too! you are there to help and treat patients, not pass judements.

migraine faker at the ED!
Maybe you didn't read my previous post, I've had migraines for 4 years AND only went to the ER TWICE. Of coursse I have meds to treat my migrianes. I take a beta blocker daily to help prevent them and I take Frova to abort them. But if you know about these type drugs the max is usually 2-3 tabs in 24 hours. The incidence I'm referring to I had taken the daily maximum for 3 days and even tried a lortab, which I vomited back up.

migraine faker at the ED!
I did call my own doctor but he was closed! It started on Christmas eve, Christmas day, and the day after! (Great way to spend the holidays.) I know the ER is not a PAIN CLINIC, but sometimes we migraine suffers have NO OTHER CHOICE. I'm a nurse, I've seen the drug seekers. I know how they treat people whose complaint is migraine. "I_LOVE_TRAUMA" I'm happy you don't have severe migraines, but for those of us that do, there is no going to bed. And yes sometimes it is too much to bear and does require stronger meds to knock it out. I have been in so much pain they took me back without any wait. This due to the fact my BP was 170/110 and pulse 175. My BP is usually 100/60. And we the migraine suddenly appears, I always have auras, it could be a sign of something more serious happening. I want to also point out I've had migraines for almost 4 years now and been to the ER twice. It's not our place to disrespect someone who may be in REAL PAIN.

migraine faker at the ED!
I am a nurse and understand there are drug seekers. I also suffer migraines and have ended up in the ER twice. Once after it suddenly appeared with severe chest pain and once because it had lasted over 3 days. The first incidence I was treated like a drug seeker. The lights were off, the doc came in and flipped the lights on and started talking in a loud voice. I was so mad! The next time I was treated after waiting SEVEN hours! At least then I got narcotic and phenergan.
