and everyone's... OK with this?

lots of hospitals are paying like this:

http://www.mercysiouxcity.com/rn-wages Strangely, people want to either deny that this is the state of things, or say "we should be grateful." No we shouldn't... not for what we do

*edit: sioux city has a cost of living index of 87.5 compared to a national average of 100

What is the cost of living compared to the salary?

who cares where you live. no nurse should make that little. we work so hard and should be compensated for everything we do.

The scale is about average for my area (COLI score 106.1).

I swear... these people keep turning up, and I can't believe it.

Take it in the WHOLE context of my post- don't do the politician thing and just pick out what stirs things up.

If the rate isn't equal to the cost of living, then it does need to be looked at. Please don't assume that a question is negative.

:)

$19/hr for an RN is wrong in any context, so long as we are referring to an RN working ANYWHERE in the US (especially with inflation on the rise). It baffles me when nurses try to defend that trend.

I make over $10/hr more than a nurse with equal experience to me on that scale. I have 10yr experiance and $22/hr is a joke for what we do.

This is a union wage scale negotiated by the bargaining unit representing the nurses, so, yeah, I guess everyone is "ok with this."

This is close to what Florida pays and the cost of living is higher in Florida!

nursing pay should be based on merit and performance, not years.

Wait until you've worked over twenty years and see newbies coming out making almost as much (if not more) than you. Seniority is definitely a factor.

Seniority is Definitely a factor! You can not put a price on experience...although the new nurses have no idea about that!

That is exactly on for our pay in IN. Not good pay but it is what it is around here.
