Ever notice this about allnurses?

Nurses General Nursing

It regulary happens that someone posts a question or brings up a topic, and is immediately told "This has been discussed before. Do a search."

Then-

When someone does a search and posts in the threads they find, someone will tell them "Did you notice how old this thread is?"

I understand there are new people but the only thing I find a little bit annoying is when students come on here asking for "help" with an assignment as a way to get out of doing their homework, too.

But with the redundant subjects, maybe the problem could be remedied by making a whole new newbies only section.

I get annoyed at the threads where someone has a bad experience with one or a few nurses, then proceeds to label the WHOLE bunch with either of the following crappy, stupid stereotypes:

Nurses Eat Their Young

LPNs are jealous of RN

That nurse must have RNitis

Nurses are women, and women are catty, that's just the way it is

Nurses hate new nurses/students

Newer nurses are rude and think they know it all

Older nurses are jealous and intimidated

Sometimes i reply, sometimes i don't, it depends on whether i feel like repeating myself or not.

Or how about:

I need to Vent!!!

Vent---Long!!!

Time to Vent!!!

Vent about my Shift from Hell!!!

If I don't Vent I will explode!!!!

And about the NCLEX threads, i don't understand, maybe just because i didn't freak out over it.

I knew when my test date was, i took a few online practice tests a week before to get used to the format, read through NCLEX PN Made Incredibly Easy Once, took the test, it stopped somewhere in the mid 80's, and i went home. I don't feel it's a test that i could have STUDIED for, i either knew it or i didn't. I knew that i'd find out the results in a few days, if i passed it, great, if i didn't, well, reschedule, pay, and do it again.

If there's one thing i've learned, panic and spazzing does nothing but create anxiety and HTN, gas and the runs and neither one of those things will help me pass anything. Yes i wanted to know my results ASAP, BUT life had to go on meanwhile, and i couldn't let that distract me from orientation. Besides, it used to be that people waited for WEEKS to find out their results, i can handle a couple of days.

Nothing much irritates me, which is why I got drafted to moderate the ADN vs. BSN forum. LOL

I think we should continue to help newbies and answer their questions, but also encourage them to use the search because there might be some answers on those threads that would help.

People sometimes respond to old threads, offering advice to people long gone and perhaps should be encouraged not to do that. I noticed someone giving advice to a pre-nursing question that was 3 years old. I thought about telling them that student probably graduated by now, but it was good advice, so I let them carry on. :)

Don't sweat the small stuff. It is only an internet discussion board.

Or something else i've done a couple of times is DO the search then post the links of the horse-beating topics.

This is wonderful. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I am glad to know I am not alone.

I get irritated at all of the above, but I'm sure when I was a newbie I probably asked the same repetitive questions (I suppose I could do a search and find out). Now, I skip the threads with hashed over titles (ADN/BSN, etc.). I do occasionally mention the date of the thread, but usually only when it's an advice post and several years old - I can't figure out why anyone digs those up, especially when it's something really personal, and the only new response is something like, "I hope your son gets over that flu soon!" and it's 3 years since the OP's kid was sick.

Those posts make me laugh.

What do you think of threads like [MOUSE]"I hate nursing and everything about it!!!"[/MOUSE]

or

"I'm leaving nursing forever because it sucks!!!"

or[EVIL] "Mean Doctors, What Should I do?"[/EVIL]

or [bANANA]"Should I quit my job?"[/bANANA]

A lot of those types of threads are helpful to me. I've been in nursing a long time, and have been in some bad situations. There have been times that I have wanted to leave nursing forever.

Reading these threads, seeing that I'm not alone, and reading what others are doing to cope has helped me to stay in nursing.
