Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hey everyone. I have a question. There is a nurse that I know of who takes exotic photos, has an OnlyFans account, "models" in music videos & doesn't mind posing near naked in sexually suggestive positions on social media sites. (She doesn't hide ANYTHING!) That's her life BUT my question is: Can a healthcare employer fire someone for what they do outside of their career as a nurse??? I know we are pillars in the community & are held to a high standard but I want to know, technically, is this woman in the wrong & would or could her job or license be on the line........Thanks in advance for the feedback given! ?

Yes. Or any reason they want to if an at-will employment situation.

No we aren't.

Losing her job over it would be related to healthcare employer business preferences. If the issue happens to be something that others might believe is related to a moral standard that's a coincidence.

She could lose her position, maybe even her license. It depends on the powers that be and how they interpret the situation.

Unless the nurse in question practices in the state where her out-of-work activities between two responsible adults are prohibited by law, she doesn't do anything illegal. Her license cannot be affected by these actions or se. She can be fired for doing this, or anything else, or for doing her job as perfectly as possible.

I strongly advise the OP to mind her own business however "unethical" it all might sound for her. The nurse in question can lose her job and be reported to Boards, but interference with legally permitted activities of an adult responsible person in this country is one of the sure ways to get involved in a lawsuit and lose it.

If this is true our community is in really big trouble.?

Who cares? Leave the person alone. It is her private life.

Why should nurses be held to higher personal and ethical standards than the most powerful people in the country?

BTW, "moral turpitude" clause which might interest Boards is usually something on the level of being closely investigated by children/elderly/animal Protection Services, petty crimes like shoplifting, embezzlement, etc. It all has nothing to do with activities which anyone can legally be involved as a private person.

I was once reported to Boards due to "suspicion in being in the USA illegally". It ended up badly not for me but for headless manager who did it because "the patient just wanted to know" and also for that patient, but only due to the fact that he was literally too stupid to stay alive and out of trouble.

I care because I want to be educated in these areas. What you don't know CAN HURT YOU! ?? & I'm not bothering her but there is a miserable person on facebook who is trying to get her fired & my curiosity peaked.

Your nursing instructor is just trying to scare you. Nurses are just normal people.

That was in school and long ago. Now you are in real world where the law and order are the same for everyone and your freedom ends right where every others' freedom begins.
