just wondering, how come nobody talks about the show anymore??
did anybody watch the show last night? i dont pay much attention to the procedures that they do, mostly because i dont understand. haha. but last night i happen to know what they were talking about. they had an alcoholic on the show and i guess he was going through end stages of liver failure and was bleeding all over the place. they put a scope down his throat and stricture the varices, while the pt was trying to talk to the son via speaker phone. i thought that was really ridiculous. they also had to put a blakemore tube to control the bleeding and tied the thing to what looked like an IV pole. it looked very uncomfortable, but is that how its really done in the hospital? sorry i sound like an idiot, i wouldnt know coz im a student.

Well the last scope I seen done the patient was pretty out of it, but that was in nursing school and I only saw a couple...maybe in the ER it is done in such a hurry and the patient unfortunately has to be awake? But I'm sure he wouldn't have been able to talk with a big tube down his throat. I just like the drama of the show, it does just what it is suppossed to...entertain. I thought Ray Liotta did a good job with his role, of course I have always liked him anyhow. What made me laugh is that they are giving a rectal exam with the curtains open? and asking personal questions with the curtains open? Can we say HIPPA violation?

I've always been a huge fan of E.R. and it's funny cuz now I'm able to recognize words and things they are saying and pick out things that are unbelievable to people who are in the actual medical field, but I love the show just for it's drama. I try not to pick out things that are wrong..i just try to separate myself from doin that to enjoy the show. I'm a sucker for ER and Scrubs..I think it is hillarious. Ray Liotta did an amazing job last night. Definitely a good episode.

i guess ur right, i have to think of the show as fiction. but didnt they get rave reviews a few years back because ppl say they do the procedures exactly how it is done. ppl were so amzed at how accurate they can be in the show?
no doubt mr. liotta was great. its not possible to talk with a scope down i think, even while awake. and dont they always do endoscopy while awake??

The ones I saw yes they were awake but out of it, so they don't remember the procedure when done.

They did order versed last night on the patient. I guess it didn't work too well. I didn't think last night's episode was so great. I do like how they're focusing on the hierarchy of the students, interns, residents, and attendings. The unrealistic aspect of it is that ER residents have to do a year of medicine before starting an ER residency. On this show, they just show up straight out of medical school. Also, Nila could go to her derm residency still next year. She only dropped out of her preliminary year of medicine, not derm. My husband's a doc and this bothers him to no end.

I stopped watching the show years ago...except..LOL! My hubby and I once played this game with friends called ER! It is a drinking game, drink if they put their steths in the wrong way, drink if that foley bag didn't have tubing, drink if they happily take a patient from paramedic (we drank a lot on that one..they were always so cool about it..LOL!)...or any other mistakes we saw..made the show after my favorites left more bearable...then after a while you just don't care...LOL!
