Has anyone received notice of an epipen recall? I saw on TV on the Sunday night news that there was a recall for malfunction of the pen. I googled it and there are several lot numbers affected.
You are correct. You have to get the lot, expiration, and NDC because it is not always the case that the whole lot is affected.
In the United States, the recall applies to 13 lots of both EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. auto-injectors distributed between December 17, 2015, and July 1, 2016. Patients can receive another EpiPen or an authorized generic version at their pharmacy, Mylan said. In the meantime, they should continue to carry and use their current EpiPen until they acquire a replacement.

I had episode about three weeks ago with one of the pens from a lot recalled today. Needle didn't come out on first jab, after the second one it did but remained stuck out like one in AdrenalClick. I called Mylan customer service and reported it all; it was my last pack ever anyway. Apparently, they somehow managed to get the spring malfunctioning and it can cause lack of actual injection of adrenalin, which is not what I want to deal with in emergency and for those $$$$$.
I mostly moved to amps/syringes and like them more so far, as they are WAY less painful. Still carry the AdrenalClick just for an occasion.
Thank you for posting this!! All epipens at my school are good. I am writing a courtesy letter home with information attached from the Mylan website so the parents can check their pens at home.
Question (maybe silly):
I have five extra epipens that are expired. How do I dispose of them?? They were given to the school for free. Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is kosher, but I am keeping the free ones that are expiring so I can teach my staff how to use them by injecting a hardy fruit (in nursing school we injected oranges with epi). I feel like it makes it less scary when you actually get trained with a REAL pen instead of the trainers...but that might just be me.

Me too! I've saving them for next year's Epi-pen training. I'm going to freak them out even more than when I used the tester on myself last year...hehe.
Sooooo....this may be a dumb question and you can totally tell me if it is....but, does all of the info for the recall have to match in order for me to notify parents?
I finally got all of the info from the other campuses in my district and some of the epipens have lot numbers affected by the recall but not NDC numbers. For instance, I have two that match a lot number and exp. date but they do not match the corresponding NDC numbers. Are they still affected by the recall?

None in my office stock, but we are adding a notice about it to our weekly family newsletter this week. I typed up the details this morning.
I also have a lot of kids that self carry.
