Duke New Grad Nurse Residency Summer 2018

Published

Hey everyone! I was just hired as a new grad into the new grad nurse residency program at Duke University Hospital. I live about 8 hours away and I'm hoping to connect with others who will also be starting the program in July! I'm also looking for recommendations on places to live in the Duke/Raleigh area!

Hi, I moved to NC from Maine. I only applied to two jobs: (1) Duke and (2) Vet. Admin (in VT). My top choice was the VA but I am glad I'm at Duke. It is so supportive at every level from every employee. I Float which brings me in contact with 5 different departments and everyone is so so nice and supportive. It's truly a 10. Good luck to you wherever you end up but if it's at Duke feel free to reach out that is only ig you're a Yankees fan (jk). Courtney

I just applied to Mother/Baby and peds. Hopefully I hear back soon. Im a LPN of 3 years so hopefully that helps. Congrats to everyone who was hired! Goodluck to those who are still waiting!

@esimone08 and @durhambound, how is it going on the CTICU? I have a pending offer for that unit and was wondering if either of you had any insight that would help me make a decision. thanks!

Hey! I don't start until July, so I can't help there :) let us know what you decide!

Luckily I am a huge Yankees fan! Lol. But thank you so much for all of your help. I was offered an interview today at a local hospital in their Level IV NICU, so that is exciting! But I'm still keeping my options open as I am hoping I hear from Duke soon!

Good luck. Try not to overthink it and just be yourself. You'll do fine.

Hi All,

I just found this forum and will also be graduating in May. I am from out of state and want to apply for a New Grad position in the ED as well as possibly some of the cardiac units. Does anyone know if there will be an actual listing to apply to for the ED? Currently all it shows for job openings is the ED New Grad Open House on March 15th (which sadly I cannot attend coming all the way from CA). Has anyone had experience getting an interview without attending the open house for that specialty? Also, did many of you apply for multiple positions at Duke at once? I know some hospitals only want you to choose one specialty to apply to. Thanks for any information or advice!

When I registered for the open house it had an option for someone who can't attend but is interested in applying. So I think you can apply for those jobs even if you can't make it down.

Has anyone heard anything? I applied last Thursday and have not heard back.

I went to the open house event for regional and interviewed for the ED. I was offered the job. I think in order to really land an interview in critical care specialties, you have to have some experience in it before hand. But honestly you never know! I would apply to whatever interests you!

I applied last weekend for a couple of the more acute floors and i hadn't heard anything. Thursday I applied for the open house med surg floor opening and yesterday I received instructions for video interview and to submit my references.

I was thinking about applying to one of the openings that says Open House, but I do not live locally. I have been offered 3 interviews at local hospitals near me, so I will see how those go. Congrats on being asked to do a video interview!
