Hey everyone! I was just hired as a new grad into the new grad nurse residency program at Duke University Hospital. I live about 8 hours away and I'm hoping to connect with others who will also be starting the program in July! I'm also looking for recommendations on places to live in the Duke/Raleigh area!

Hey there! I just applied for the residency program in the ED for a July start time. I'm from Colorado so it will be quite a move for me if I get it. How long did the application and interview process take?
Hey EMTRN! I applied on December 3rd for a couple positions. I had a phone interview the following week, had another phone interview on the 18th for the critical care float pool and interviewed/shadowed in person on the 20th for the CTICU. I received offers for both positions that same day, so it was pretty quick!
Oh wow! That's a fast turn around! And congratulations on getting offers on both positions! Which did you accept?
I was considering applying for Duke Regional ED as well, and I still may, but University is my #1 choice. Have you done any research for areas to live? My partner and I are planning to head out that way anyway, but we're not to familiar with the area.
Thank you! I accepted the CTICU position. It was $3 less an hour, but I loved shadowing on the unit and the idea of having one unit where I can really get to know my coworkers.
I have heard good things about Duke Regional - I would definitely go ahead and apply there if I were you! I have done a fair amount of research and have some places bookmarked on my computer, but I'm out of town and only have my phone here! I'm hoping a few people who live in the area already will get in here to give those of us coming from other states some suggestions/tips!
Nice! That is exciting! Having a home unit is definitely nice. I think I may go ahead and try for regional, but I'm crossing my fingers for University.
Hopefully we hear from others applying! And Ill let you know if I get any news. Hopefully Ill hear something soon.
Sounds good, good luck!

Hi! I also will be working on that unit starting in Feb. if all goes well with getting my licensing endorsed.
Does anyone know what color scrubs I should buy. I think I may have heard throw the grapevine that Duke will require all their nurses to wear royal blue in June. But I have been seeing in other places that it may be galaxy blue.
Congrats on your job! Are you from the Raleigh-Durham area originally? I've seen rumors of them going to that on previous forums for a few years now. I would contact someone up there just to be sure so you don't waste any money!
Nope! I am from Alabama. I will be moving to Durham at the end of the month. I contacted Heather, I think she is in charge of new hires on CTICU.
UPDATE: She confirmed as of July 1, 2018 the official colors will be royal blue.
