Hey everyone! I was just hired as a new grad into the new grad nurse residency program at Duke University Hospital. I live about 8 hours away and I'm hoping to connect with others who will also be starting the program in July! I'm also looking for recommendations on places to live in the Duke/Raleigh area!
@DurhamBound have you found a decent place to live? I will also be starting in the CTICU in August.
Congrats! Are you from the area? I've had a decent amount of luck and think I've finally settled in on a place but still have to see it in person to know for sure. The apartment list app is awesome, and I also joined a couple Facebook groups where people list townhomes, houses, and apartments for rent that I can link if you would like.
@DurhamBound, actually I am in Hawaii right now. I grew up in Charlotte NC though so familiar with NC. I would love if you could send me that link. My email is [email protected].
Thank you!!
Hey everyone! Congratulations to all of you who have been accepted and good luck to those interviewing. I have an interview/shadowing for the Trauma/Surgical ICU at Duke University coming up... I am wondering if anyone would care to share their experience and how I can best prepare for this interview? Thank you!!

Hey Amanda,
For me, I shadowed two hours and then sat down with a couple of clinical leads for about 30 minutes. The entire thing was very laid back, and I felt very welcome through the entire process. I think the best thing to do when shadowing is to ask questions and express your excitement about the opportunity, but also make sure your personality and all shines through so they know you'll be a good fit with the staff. My interview with the clinical leads was much easier than the phone interview before. I personally didn't receive any behavior based interview questions in person.
Good luck!
Thank you so much for the quick and detailed reply. I really appreciate it!! Did you wear scrubs to both the interview and shadowing experience? If so, did you wear the same color scrubs that the nurses wear at Duke?
I just wore my own scrubs. As long as they look professional you will be fine. I did wear scrubs for both parts, and I think they prefer it that way so that there's no time taken up with a wardrobe change. Keep us updated on how everything goes!

Hey! I recently started working in the trauma SICU and love it! For the interview: after nurse recruitment walked me to the unit I sat down with the manager and interviewed with her for 45ish minutes. Then I shadowed a nurse on the unit for an hour! Just have confidence and be yourself! Let me know how it goes!
