Anyone else applying to Duke's ABSN program for Spring 2015? As we're approaching the application deadline, I thought it would be great to get a conversation started. If anyone is currently in the program, I would love to hear your thoughts about the program as well.
Hi erinmayy,
I have not heard anything yet. Like you Duke is my first choice (and my only choice). I have been checking my email and the applicant self-service every hour and I just want to know once and for all so I don't get OCD from this.
It's so frustrating however I hope I get an answer soon. I hope you get accepted. By the way did you have to take the GRE?
I am checking every hour too! I feel like I'm in high school again with all this waiting to find out what college I get into. I (thankfully) did not have to take the GRE, I am a terrible test taker but very good academically - my SATs were horrendous but I did just fine in college (these tests reflect nothing on potential, just how good you are at test taking - but enough of my ranting). Hopefully we will hear back soon so we don't go too crazy, good luck! :)
Hi all!! I just found out from the receptionist at Duke that the decisions for admissions will be sent by this Friday because the committee is still reviewing applications and she told me that they had a lot of applicants this year but would not say how many. We have to sweat it out for another 24 hrs until Friday. The decision can make someone happy or sad through the weekend.
Hi all!! I just found out from the receptionist at Duke that the decisions for admissions will be sent by this Friday because the committee is still reviewing applications...
This isn't really news, as they'd told us we'd hear back July 9-11. But ummmm that last part is a little bit, shall I say, troubling? To say the least. Admissions letters are day(s) away from going out and they're still not even completely done wading through them and making their decisions? I had my reservations about this speedy selection process. Less than a month of going over applications? This can't be good but I sure hope they know what the heck they're doing. Other schools, like UNC, take 3 months to deliberate admissions decisions... It's nice that we DON'T have to wait three months to find out whether we got into Duke or not but it does warrant the question of just how diligently they're poring over our applications.
The only thing I feel unsure about is that I didn't get the GRE score I needed. Albeit, they kind of only gave me one shot to get it where I needed to (time constraints), said it would be futile to retest (admissions wouldn't get my new better score update in time to sway the decision), and I had little preparation for it due to them rushing me to take it "just in case."
You're welcome myischmo! I also reserve the fact that if I don't get in I will at look for work in their hospital or WakeMed and while I am working keep on searching for other nursing programs. I can't give up on my RN dreams. It would be wonderful if I get in but it's good to have a back up plan.
