Tuition cost
Yes. I got into a 80k program just 2 wks ago and for me and my family decided it was stupid to pay that much for a job that only pays 21-24/hr. Plus to incur that debt at 37 yrs old would be unthinkable for me and my family lol. Yes, my hubby would have done it and yes I had financing in order to go.... But in the end... I chose not to.

Good luck vbee! I'm glad you got an early seat too. I was VERY tempted but in the end it's what's better for my family and I.

Duke ABSN Spring 2015
Hello all. Not sure what has been going on with all of you but I was offered a spot on the 2014 fall cohort starting this Monday. While I do have finances in order to do it I refused the seat as well as took myself off the wait list for spring 2015. Look luck to you all!!! ...I'm am closing the door on nursing for myself. It's just not a passion anymore for me.

Duke ABSN Spring 2015
Well, I am not sure I agree with all of that Homelife, but that's okay. I am still contemplating the cost and whether or not to be a nurse. I am not liking the outlook of the career and what I have seen on the job. I currently have a great job opportunity this week and may just take that as it pertains to the degree I already have. Also, it's out of the healthcare field and pays more which is what I may be leaning toward. I'll know by the end of the week what my plans will be. Adding 80k of debt sounds absolutely disgusting to me right now when the economy and pay for nurses isn't as the demand suggests.

Duke ABSN Spring 2015
Almost seems like the wait list isn't ranked! They will just go thru and decide who they want to send invites too. It should have been ordered as they ranked the first round applicants. And as student decline seats, they admit student individually. That's how other programs have done it lol strange.

Duke ABSN Spring 2015
I think the only thing that really bothers me is that we don't get the Duke day opportunity. I don't care about the interviews or curric change really.

Never Too Old for Nursing School
I am 37 and on the waitlist for the Duke University ABSN program. I also homeschool my 3 kiddos and worry about that. Sometimes I am on board with my decision and the other half of the time I think I am nutz!

Nursing and the Ebola Virus
I guess it's different when you actually have children. I personally wouldn't care for an Ebola patient. Nor would I expect anyone who wasn't comfortable doing it to do it, children or not. That's where accidents happens. Now, I don't use the excuse of my children... I have three... But they and my family are reason enough for me not too. I wouldn't say a "trump" card as it's more of a "I don't want to potentially expose my children or family to this". There are those that use it that way, but that's not the meaning behind my nurse friend or myself.

Duke ABSN Spring 2015
Yeah Homelife that's what I was wondering... The private loans. They tend to be difficult to get without a consigner. I didn't know they did away with the masters credits!

How old were you/how long did it take?
I think you are still very young. I am 37 and waiting to see if I get into an ABSN program. Good luck and don't worry about your age! :)

Hey all. I was just wonder to those of you who accepted your seat or plan to if you were able to get financing?

Nursing and the Ebola Virus
At the hospital I work at we had a TB patient and the nurse scheduled to care for this patient politely refused because he was worried about bringing it home to his children. He wasn't fired or looked down upon. EVERYONE understood. He switched patients with other nurses who were okay and willing. Yes, the nurse supervisor stepped in and helped with this patient. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as the patient is getting the care they need.
